Can anyone explain me what is happening with nursing right now? I was thinking about doing new degree because of CS job market is cooked and I heard that nursing market is great. But then i looked at this graph and i dont know anymore.

Is this graph a glitch or nursing is rapidly shrinking in opportunities and is not safe as second degree?

All I heard before/in college what that if I wasn’t “passionate” about CS I’d never make it.

Well that’s not true. I’m not smart; I dislike coding and never made any personal projects. But at the end of the day just like any other major or industry, networking/hard work/ambition is what’s important. First year out of college I make 110k base in a MCOL city. I work for a bank doing full stack SWE work.

So to anyone who thinks they’ll make it far just because they like cs or like coding. Get over yourself. Tech is just like every other sector.

So I see some people saying the market is getting slightly better and that new CS enrollments are declining (which are positive signs), but I don’t see how that helps those that graduated over the last three years and were left out? CS enrollment declining has a 4 year lag before we'll see the effects, and the market improving slightly doesn’t mean anything when there’s a massive backlog of CS grads from the last few years. Employers will obviously give preference to recent grads over someone that graduated two years ago and has been unemployed/working irrelevant jobs.

Obviously not every CS grad will go into SWE, but even if you take into account tech adjacent roles in business and IT, I still don’t see how the tech industry absorbs everyone graduating and recently graduated.

I want to go into CS but I know the market's brutal right now. I've seen stats showing something like 7% unemployment and 19% underemployment for new grads, which means roughly a quarter of grads are struggling to land a job in their field. I don't want to be one of them. I'm trying to figure out what actually separates the grads who get hired from the ones who don't. Is it school prestige, GPA, LeetCode grind, internships, personal projects, networking or some combination? I'd rather build the right habits now than realize senior year that I wasted time on the wrong things.

For people who've been through the process recently or who are hiring new grads: what actually moved the needle for you or the candidates you saw succeed? Was it having 2-3 solid internships, a github full of real projects, being able to solve mediums on the spot, or something less obvious like referrals and networking? Any advice is that helps me not to be in this bottom 30% of grads is welcome.

I've been coding since 4th grade. Countless personal projects, hundreds of LeetCode problems solved, I'm at a T10 school... and I still can't land even a mediocre internship or entry-level job. It's making me question whether any of this effort was worth it. If I'd put the same hours into something like accounting or electrical engineering, I feel like I'd be swimming in offers right now instead of drowning in rejections.

I still love coding, genuinely, but it's hard not to feel like the market just doesn't reward that anymore. Anyone else in the same boat? How are you coping with it, and has anyone actually pivoted to a different major/field this late and found it worked out better?

I'm graduating this December as a master's student. I've been looking for a full-time job since the beginning of June, but so far there have been no interviews.

Context: I have 3 years of data engineer experience, a 6-month SDE internship experience at Nvidia back in my home country last summer, and a 3-month founding AI engineer internship this summer.

I'm targeting AI startups and big techs. Many of my friends started their careers at a medium-sized company, so I know it can be a good choice as well. But the thing is, during these two years of trying to apply for medium-sized companies for internships/full-time, I've never heard back from them, and that's partially why last year I ended up going back to my home country. So I think there might be something specific for medium size company that I lack?

I saw many posts saying we should start looking this summer, ideally before September. But on LinkedIn, I haven't seen many big tech new grads post recently. Am I being late, or is there something wrong with my searching strategy?

Essentially whenever I’m coding I usually have like Claude, google, a few documents, and my ide up. I usually use Claude to bounce ideas off of and look through the docs to make sure it’s not hallucinating. My code is usually like 40% ai generated, 40% me generated, and 20% just straight up ripped off someone else. Just thought I’d ask bc I see sm vibe code discourse and I’m like I kinda vibe code.

1. Are the interviews more technical or more leadership-principles focused?
2. Any specific leadership principles that come up more for SA roles specifically?
3. All my experience so far is SWE, and I'm actually more interested in staying SWE long-term. Would taking this SA role hurt my chances of transitioning back into SWE down the line?

* Year: Rising junior

* Experience: Multiple SWE internships (including a startup and a large Fortune top 50 company (not faang/big tech))

* Research: Academic ML research assistant experience

* Projects: This section on my resume is a little weak right now; I don't have too much going on there.

* Academics: GPA is kinda mid lowk (but still considered good for the stem degree realm). I am a CS-adjacent major (think IT, ai, datasci, Computational Math) at a well-ranked university that isn't particularly known as a tech target school.

I’ve been grinding LeetCode (still suck at graphs and dp but has gotten decent at some other topics) and ML topics heavily.

Fortunately, it paid off, and I already secured a comfortable 2027 SWE offer that pays me enough to start already getting lazy. I know I am incredibly lucky to have this in my back pocket. I want to use the upcoming recruiting cycles to swing for the fences and maximize my chances at landing a FAANG/big tech adjacent role.

Based on my current standing and profile, what is the best way to utilize my time? Should I focus on beefing up my projects, networking, or something else entirely?

Hi, I recently graduated with my MS in comp science from a university In bay area. I have applied for a lot of jobs and internships over the past two years during my academic studies. Haven't gotten any calls or interviews. I don't know what's wrong with my profile. I worked on DSA, did open source contributions, and reached out to recruiters, managers, and team leads. Did multiple applications with referrals, but no luck yet. Any kind of help will be appreciated. Any recruiters, team leads, or team members having openings in their team? Happy to connect and talk

Interning at FAANG right now and honestly I am pretty disappointed in the quality and experience I am getting out of it.

Most of my project has been delivered through vibecoding and most of it never really touched my team's core code base. Even now that I do get the opportunity to work on an actual program my team owns, the project moves so fast that all I can pretty much do is prompt Claude until it works and hope for the best. Basically I just have a agent loop that does all the researching, updating and reviewing and update prompt as necessary. This isn't even just me either but a good chunk of interns I spoke to just pretty much set an agent up on their project and have it do everything, legit saw some hitting multiple thousands of dollars in tokens on their usage statistics.

Most of my code gets approved very quickly and if it isn't its because my team's own ai agent reviewers caught something. It really seems like a lot of teams don't really care at this point and just approve at will really.

I understand that AI is replacing most code generation activities now and a lot of places are moving more towards AI but even here it seems like nearly everything is outsourced to AI beyond just coding, such as cicd issues etc.

Still trying for the RO but not sure if I would last the 2 or so years (if we don't get laid off before then lol) before jumping ship if everything just feels so soulless.

I keep hearing that there are two main new grad SWE hiring cycles: one from around August–December and another from January–April, where companies post a lot of entry-level roles in bulk.

Is that actually true? When do you usually start seeing the biggest wave of new grad postings? Do a lot of companies also open new grad roles from January through April?

I have been unemployed since March and have done full round interviews at least 8 times, all ending up in failures and tons of wasted hours. It's been terrible and my mental/physical health has been in the gutter the longer I've been without a job plus financially, I am just ripping through my savings which is just more salt on the wound.

The last 2 weeks, I have been interviewing with 2 companies, and I decided that I was sick of messing up the interviews and made the decision to cheat. My reason is I am an experienced dev and have years of experience, but I suck at technical interviews and keep failing to get a job even though I can do the job if they'd just hire me.

How I did it is I didn't do anything crazy, like use an ai bot that listens and spits out the answers or have someone tell me the answers in a little mic. I simply just made cheat sheets in notion that have all the likely questions and answers and put it on my screen where my camera is. I include everything from behavioural questions and my stories to all the random trivia gotcha questions. I have all questions labeled based on subject and just use the table of contents to switch to each category depending on what they ask. If I need more time to find the answer, I just ask another question to clarify.

I did this for the last two interviews, and I just got the offers for both, and I am over the moon that I don't have to stress anymore.

I know it's unethical to cheat but so is this job market and this whole situation in the first place. I lost my original job of 5 years because they offshored my team to cut costs just out of the blue one day.

I guess what I want you all to take from this post is if you're struggling and on the fence about if you should or shouldn't cheat, just do it. If they catch you then it is what it is, but we unfortunately have to make money to eat and keep a roof over our heads so just do whatever you have to do to land a role.

For me it ended up getting me these offers which I wouldn't have gotten if I hadn't cheated.

They are also based on topics my recruiter gave me so my notes might not be helpful for your particular interview. I make different notes for every interview

I am also not sharing my cheat sheets, they are tailored per job and for my specific stack and yoe. They were created using Claude which you can do as well just as easily as I did. Can anyone guide me on whether a MEng (a course at UK universities) is worth it in the present job market soley for the purpose of giving you better odds at landing a job specifically in software eng/CS field

My parents kind of are set on me doing the Meng maybe because it used to be better in their time but I think times have changed now so could I be better off finding a job/part-time/internship after getting my bachelors instead of immediately pursuing a masters degree after the bachelors and are there any resources/data to show this if it is the case
