Mid 2000's Crossville Kids (Horn St.)

I'm curious if there's anyone here that grew up on or around Horn St. in the mid 2000's. Im a 97' baby and moved around a lot after but spent most of my childhood there. There were so many neighborhood kids around the same age I thought it would be cool to try to reach out. I never got any contact info before moving or before others moved off.

What’s everyone’s plans for this weekend?! If you’re new here and looking for a place to watch fireworks, Centennial Park puts on a show every year as well as Fairfield Glade!

Why is the rain avoiding us?!

Hi! I just moved to Crossville from Kingston in May. I have always loved rain and storms so I have a few weather apps. I have noticed that so many times when it shows it's supposed to rain or storm here in Crossville ( I live in a neighborhood kinda off Miller) the storms and rain either dissipate or miss us. This didn't usually happen in Kingston. Weather apps are never perfect but seriously so many storms and rain on the weather radar end up avoiding us.

Is this a terrain thing or what? I'm getting very irritated that it never storms here and barely rains. I've only been here since May but still, when do we get rain and storms? Does that even happen here?

Sparta Drive In 🚗🍿🎥 Spoiler

UPDATE: I just realized I made a mistake and put last weeks dates and movies lol, they are showing Toy Story 5 and The Breadwinner (PG 1h 40min) Friday JUNE 26th and Saturday JUNE 27th. Everything else is correct!

Good morning and happy Friday! I wanted to share that the Sparta Drive In is showing two movies this weekend! Definitely will be fun to do with friends, family or even a solo outing!

I do recommend going before the show starts so you can get a good spot and possibly rent a radio 📻 if you want to use theirs! I also recommend stopping by the scenic overlook on your way there, it’s very pretty, especially at sunset 🌅

Address: 220 Roberts Matthew’s Hwy Sparta Tn 38583

Hello!

Hello, beautiful people of Crossville! 👋
I wanted to take a moment to introduce myself as one of your new moderators!
I moved to Crossville when I was younger and have called it home for the past 16 years. Originally, I’m from Oak Ridge, Tennessee 🧡, but Crossville has become a place I truly love. From local favorites and hidden gems to fun things to do around town, I’ve picked up quite a bit of knowledge over the years.
We’re blessed to live in such a beautiful area, and for those of you visiting, I hope it feels like a home away from home 🏡
If you have questions, need recommendations, are looking for something fun to do, or just want to share some local tips, feel free to comment below! 💬 I’d be happy to help however I can.
Looking forward to getting to know everyone and being part of this great community! 🎉😊

Gnats in my bourbon

We had a lot of gnats flying around our kitchen, mostly around the produce area. The other day, I noticed I had a bottle of buffalo trace with a pour top on it sitting out, and it was full of them.

That bottle, unfortunately, had to go away, but I poured a little bit out into a shot glass and left it on the counter just to see.

It seems they are attracted to halfway decent bourbon, and they get too drunk to fly away and drown

Two questions.

How freaking long are we gonna have to put up with this infestation around here?

Are there any other remedies for removing them in good numbers, that doesn’t cost me a very valuable resource in these times of stress?

Fitness trainer in town?

Looking to do more than just go to the gym and pedal a stationary bike, or walk for 'miles'. Does anyone know of an actual personal trainer in town? Crossville or Cookeville in fact would work. Both me and my wife are looking to target specific things, and would rather work with someone qualified rather than try facebook 'workout routines to make you 21 again!'

[FOR SALE] 2006 International 4300 crew cab w/ workbed, 240 gallon fuel storage, and 5th wheel hitch

Post image

Incase anyone around is interested. I'm selling my International 4300 crew cab which comfortably sits 6, and that has a workbed with 4 tool boxes, 240 gallons of total diesel storage, and a 25k# 5th wheel hitch (also has a gooseneck ball included). It has ~350k on the odo, with about 25k of that being on a remanufactured engine, and it got a BRAND NEW TURBO about 1,200 miles ago.

So yeah, it's in great shape mechanically. Decent shape cosmetically. I just don't need it any more as we aren't moving our 5th wheel RV around as often as we used to.

Asking $45k.

I got Fire Red and it would be cool to be able to trade.

Does anyone know what’s happening with that 1776 coffee shop next to the hospital?

It’s been sitting there pretty much vacant for the past year. Last week I saw a gas utility truck, and two kitchen appliance vendor trucks in the parking lot. Couldn’t tell if they were removing things and shutting it down, or install installing things.

Which is your favorite Mexican restaurant?

Seems we have like 23 of them or something here in town. As somebody who spent 12 years in Southern California, I’m having a good deal of trouble, reconciling any of them as standouts. Everybody here seems to have a favorite, and swears off all of the rest.

What’s your favorite? Why?

I miss having a movie theater

Just got back from Cookeville from seeing Project Hail Mary (it was awesome go watch it). Rocky Top wasn’t the greatest theater experience but it was local and better than a church.

I am trying to open the sub up

Just an update - I'm trying to get the sub opened to 'public' status so people don't have to request permission to post and comment. It's going to take a day or two working with the Reddit admins, but it's underway!

Been a busy few weeks for me so, not making as much progress as I had hoped here, sorry... but I'm still definitely trying to get the dust and cobwebs kicked off of this place.

Mason or someone who can install rock siding on a house?

Looking for someone in the area. Anyone know anyone in the business or have any recommendations?

Any good bars in town?

There are plenty of 'grills' and restaurants with a bar of course, but - are there any real bars in town? Preferably something for the 30-50 crowd, not the 65+ golf course crowd? Looking for a place to actually go try and meet some folks in this town without feeling left out when the discussion of grandkids in college inevitably pops up!

Heck, even any recommendations for a spot we might do a subreddit meet-up sometime in the future?!

Ales & Tails - Anyone getting interested in this?

There is a new bar opening down towards Tansi off of Lantana called Ales & Tails, and it's basically a dog park that will serve beer according to the owners. It's slated to open next month with an indoor bar area, and 2 outdoor areas (1 on-leash, 1 off-leash).

Anyone getting excited for this? I swung by today and met the owners who are doing some (most?) of the construction themselves. Sounds like it's going to be real good time!

New mod - changes coming!

I moved to the area a couple years ago, and noticed that the sub wasn’t super active. In the past year, it has been locked behind an approval gate, so nothing has been posted at all.

After trying to work with the moderators to improve the situation, I have now been given control of the sub.

Over the next week or two I hope to make some changes around here and open this area up for actual use again.

Please stay tuned, and hopefully we can revitalize this community a little bit more!

UPDATE 3/1: I haven't had as much time this weekend to focus here as I had hoped, but a few things have happened so far...

  1. Sub is unlocked - Feel free to post anything related to Crossville (Tansi and FFG included) as long as it complies with the sub and site rules.
  2. Rules update - Not updating anything major but tweaking some small things over the next week or two to align the rules with a more permissive and encouraging discourse
  3. Looking for mods - If you're a Reddit aged (what even does that mean?!) person who's on here half as much as me and interested, let me know! I could use a hand doing some clean up and just kind of monitoring things as we try to grow this back up.
