Ask a neighbor *Tempo College Park Lease Takeover / Relet Available for 2026-2027

Hi!

I know this is last-minute, but if anyone is looking for a lease, I’m looking for someone to take over my 2026-2027 lease at Tempo College Park.

Details:

  • Tempo College Park, 8430 Baltimore Ave
  • The lease runs from August 22, 2026 to July 24, 2027, and rent is $1,115/month
  • 4 x 4 layout
  • Private bed and bath
  • Close to UMD campus

The lease takeover would need to be completed through Tempo’s official process, so the replacement resident must complete any required application/relet steps and be approved by Tempo.

Feel free to message me with any questions!

ALERT Won in Court but Still Can't Recover $400 From a Computer Repair Shop in Maryland(College Park)

[Must Read!!!] I am leaving my story here because I hope no one else will ever go through what I experienced. Any advice will be appreciated.

First of all, I am a student at the University of Maryland (UMD). Last fall, my laptop LCD screen was broken. I chose to repair my laptop at this one store, just because it was cheaper out of two stores that were recommended by the Terrapin Tech. The name of the chosen computer repair shop is "Friendly" name.

When I visited the shop, the technician confidently told me that my LCD screen could be repaired. At the time I submitted my laptop for repair, the laptop would power on and display a visibly cracked image on the screen. The technician took my laptop to bring the specification of LCD panel installed in my laptop to order the LCD replacement.

When I got the laptop back, however, the situation had become worse. Instead of displaying the cracked image as before, the screen was now completely black. I asked why the screen was black.

They assured me that once the ordered LCD was installed, everything would function normally again. The technician told me to use an external monitor using HDMI cable. Since I don't have any external monitor, my laptop left untouched.

When the ordered LCD arrived, the technician replaced my broken LCD with the new one, but the screen was still completely black. I asked what was happening, and he told me that the LCD they had ordered was not compatible with my laptop and that they would order another one.

This process repeated several times.

Despite multiple attempts, my LCD was never repaired. The screen remained black throughout. At that point, I had a strong feeling that something was seriously wrong. I visited another repair shop for my inspection.

The inspection revealed that the mainboard fuse had failed and needed to be replaced with a new one.

I asked the original shop to provide at least partial compensation for this expense. Instead of investigating the problem, they refused to reimburse me for any portion of the repair cost, claiming that the mainboard fuse failure was simply the result of my bad luck and my improper use of the laptop.

The original shop reinstalled my original broken LCD and refunded the only LCD ordering costs. They never accepted any responsibility for the mainboard fuse failure.

My original problem had only been a broken LCD. By that point, I was now dealing with a failed mainboard fuse as well.

I later had the mainboard fuse replaced at another repair shop, which cost me approximately $400.

What I still do not understand is why the original shop insisted that this was entirely my fault and that I should bear 100% of the cost. I never received a technical explanation, objective evidence, or supporting data.

Their response was always the same: they did nothing wrong, and I was responsible for everything.

I decided to pursue legal action(lawsuit).

The hearing took place in February. The owner of the shop didn't appear. Ultimately, after reviewing my evidence, the judgment was entered in my favor, and I was awarded compensation from the shop for the cost of repairing the mainboard fuse.

I then attempted to collect the judgment using the bank information for the shop that I had been able to obtain. However, I was informed that the bank account information I had was insufficient and that the funds could not be recovered. I spent considerable time researching collection options and even consulted attorneys. In the end, I learned that I could not collect the judgment using the bank information available to me, and any other banking information was not publicly accessible.

I filed a second lawsuit against the owner. That hearing took place in July.

This time, the owner appeared in court.

The judge dismissed the second lawsuit because the first case remained open. I understood and accepted the court’s explanation.

Afterward, I tried once again to resolve the matter related to the first case. I contacted the owner, and countless text messages were exchanged. They continued to insist that they had done absolutely nothing wrong and that I alone was responsible for the entire cost of repairing the mainboard fuse.

At the same time, he sent me numerous insulting and degrading messages. They even brought religion, God, sexual harassment, and racism into the conversation.

I have decided to end further communication with him and focus on exploring other legal options.

If anyone has any similar experiences or if you need more information about the shop, please dm me.

Ask a neighbor Car wrongly towed at The Varsity parking lot

I want to warn anyone parking at The Varsity / Board & Brew lot at 8150 Baltimore Ave in College Park.

On July 15, I scanned the posted ParkM QR code and paid $5 for a two-hour guest-parking permit. My permit began at 8:11 PM and was valid until 10:09 PM.

When I returned shortly before 10 PM, my car was gone. A1 Parking Management told me it was towed for nonpayment and required $175 to release it, despite my showing proof that I had paid. The tow ticket A1 gave me lists the tow time as 8:57 PM which was more than an hour before my paid permit expired. ParkM later sent an official proof-of-permit document confirming the permit was active for my vehicle during that time.

The ticket says the tow was requested by The Varsity. A1 handled the impound/release and the truck at the lot was Greg’s Towing.

I have requested a Prince George’s County Show Cause Hearing and asked A1 for its pre-tow records and photograph.

If you have had a similar issue with this specific lot, A1 Parking Management, Greg’s Towing, or ParkM (especially being towed despite an active permit), please comment or DM me. Firsthand details, dates, photos, tickets, and permit records could help establish whether this was an isolated error or a recurring problem.

Ask a neighbor Would anyone be willing to teach me how to work on my truck?

Hey everyone!

This might be a bit of an unusual request.

I'm looking for a sort of "dad mentor" who's into working on cars or trucks and wouldn't mind teaching someone who's eager to learn. I have a pickup truck that I'd love to start maintaining and repairing myself, but I didn't grow up learning this stuff.

I'm not looking for free labor - I'd like to be hands-on and actually learn. Happy to bring coffee, pizza, help with your own projects, buy the parts I need, or otherwise make it worth your time.

I was thinking there might be someone out there whose kids never got into the hobby but who genuinely enjoys teaching. If that's you (or you know someone), I'd love to connect. Weekends work best for me, and I'm in no rush. I just want to slowly build the skills over time.

Thanks!

Discussion Just graduated got a job in Laurel, moving alone from Boston to Maryland. Is College Park the move for me?

Im a 23 year old guy, I was scoping out Bethesda originally because it looked super nice and I liked the downtown area but some comments about the commute and traffic to Laurel has steered me a different direction. Some people were recommending College Park as well as downtown Silver Spring.

Is this a good place to go downtown? I like to go out to eat and get drinks, I’m also going to need new friends 😭 and for living costs vs how nice it is, etc. Also anyone who commutes into Laurel I’ve heard it’s a straight shot? How’s the traffic? any recommendations help thank you so much

Marketplace Dental Hygiene Student in Need of Patients

Post image
30 Upvotes

Hi, all! I’m a dental hygiene student right down the road at Fortis in Landover, MD. If you’re in need of a dental cleaning, please reach out! As the flyer states, the fee is $40, but I’m happy to cover it for you.
Appointments are on Wednesdays and Thursdays and last from 8am-12pm (if you need to leave earlier than 12pm, that’s okay!). Because this is a learning environment and instructors are checking behind me every step of the way, it will likely take two visits to complete everything. HOWEVER, because we are held to such a high standard, it will be the most thorough cleaning of your life!!

Homes for sale/rent Looking to Relet Studio Apartment at Landmark College Park

Is anyone looking for an apartment for the upcoming 2026-2027 year? I'm looking for someone to take over my Studio Terrace lease at Landmark. I haven't moved in yet, the lease starts on August 21, 2026 for 12 months ($1,839). It's got a gym, sauna, yoga room, Dunkin' Donuts on premises, and the staff are phenomenal. Most utilities are included, and there's a washer and dryer in the unit. They're working on remodeling the entire complex for a more modern look too. It's set to be finished before Fall 2026.

My DMs are open if anyone wants to hmu!
