Hi! I recently graduated from university with a B.S. in bioinformatics. I’m really struggling to find a job, but would love to find one that’s remote. I’ve primarily been looking at Data Entry or Analyst roles and have been having no luck.
Long-term goal is to work in healthcare analytics, but would love to get experience in something and feel more confident with having a job to look forward to.
If anyone has any open positions or can recommend me somewhere, I would be very happy to hear about anything. Even tips on networking or how to start finding a job is very appreciated. I live in the Chicagoland area!
Thanks for listening and for the help everyone!

Or even just an interview at this rate.
I applied for two roles with the City Of Chicago DTI department a few months ago, both would be a perfect match for my skillset, and both were applied for well before their deadlines.
I have heard zero verdict from either one. Both were removed from job boards, but still show as Active on my job portal on the City of Chicago Taleo page. I even added a guy on LinkedIn who works for the department, and he just told me to keep waiting but accepted my request.
I understand government hiring takes an eternity, but I’m recently unemployed, and have been applying since February with no offers, plenty of first and second rounds, but three final rounds that ultimately went nowhere. The most recent one even checked my references and asked when I could start. Still no offer. That one hurt.
Anyone have any tips or tricks? Do I need to order the office a pizza or singing telegram? Any advice is appreciated.

What helped so far is using resume.zoevera.com to customize my resume for each application and prepare.zoevera.com to practice interviews with scenarios I'm expecting. It made my prep feel a lot more intentional instead of just hoping I covered the right things. Anyone else found something that keeps everything organized?

For background, I graduated early in December (out of state school) and successfully passed the February 2026 Illinois bar exam. I have applied to hundreds of jobs so far and have only had one interview at a job I don't really want. I tailor my resume and cover letter for every single job and have even had a few internal referrals. I attend networking events (although I am pretty shy) and have tried to put my face in common young lawyer spaces. I do not drink and bar settings make me uncomfortable so I do avoid those.
I am running out of options and am even applying in law adjacent fields. I'm looking for any tips that may help strengthen my search. Tips can range anywhere from resume alterations to socializing tips (at networking events) to job sites or really anything. Thank you so much

Hi, I have been searching for biology related laboratory research opportunities within the city of Chicago for a couple months now and its been slim pickings! I am still pretty early in my career but I dont want to get stagnated in building experience. I am not getting a lot of luck with many of the university's research assistant postings (tbh most of them are for funding purposes), but if anyone knows a biology researcher (preferably in cell biology) who is in need of some volunteering assistance I would be happy to lend some help for experience sake.

I’ve been searching for close to a year, and I’m genuinely struggling to understand this market.
I have about 13 years of enterprise technology experience: five years at SAP and eight years at Salesforce in Technical Account Management and Customer Success. I’ve supported major enterprise customers, handled escalations, led executive reviews, worked through complex technical issues, and helped retain multimillion-dollar relationships.
I’ve applied through job boards, contacted people directly, worked my network, tailored resumes, prepared heavily for interviews, and reached multiple final rounds. I’m not claiming I’ve performed perfectly in every interview, but I’ve had several processes where the conversations went extremely well, only to be told they selected someone whose background was a slightly closer match.
That is what I don’t understand. Companies say they want experienced people who can learn, communicate, manage customers, and operate in complex environments. But the actual hiring standard seems to be someone who has already performed the exact same role, with the exact same product, in the exact same industry.
How do people ever move between industries or grow into adjacent roles under that standard?
I remember people entering technology in Ireland from finance, architecture, general business, and completely unrelated backgrounds. Yet in Chicago, someone with more than a decade of relevant tech experience can apparently still be considered too much of a “risk.”
For people involved in hiring here: who is actually getting these jobs? Are companies genuinely finding perfect candidates, are most positions being filled internally or through referrals, or are some of these roles simply never being filled?
I’m interested in honest answers from recruiters, hiring managers, and other experienced candidates. I’m not looking for generic advice about tailoring my resume or networking more. I’ve already been doing all of that.

Hello! I’m relocating to Chicago ASAP and am ready to move with just a suitcase or two.
For the past two years, I’ve worked as a prep cook, and I’ve genuinely enjoyed the work. Preparing dishes from scratch is fulfilling. I find tasks like chopping vegetables, trimming meats, and keeping an organized kitchen therapeutic.
In my most recent role, I also had the opportunity to create fresh fruit and vegetable platters as well as charcuterie boards, which I’ve really enjoyed and would love to continue developing.
That said, I’m also open to opportunities outside of the kitchen. I’ve been considering roles such as a leasing consultant for apartment communities or positions in sales.
Any help or recommendations would be greatly appreciated. I have a plane ticket booked for August 1st and may reschedule for a later date in August.
