Was not sure where to post but it seems several of the democrats in USA are speaking like the Republicans. And going almost radical right
For example many are speaking against trans rights and also about supporting the tariffs against our country canada etc

Capitalism can't solve the housing crisis. Politicians talk about increasing supply to lower prices, but what will be the consequence? The value of real estate will go down, and given how high it currently is, a market correction could generate a crisis similar to 2008. At the World Economic Forum, Trump - as he so often does - said the quiet part out loud that the rest of the wealthy are privately thinking:

And I have to say one thing about housing, because nobody ever says this. I am very protective of people that already own a house, of which we have millions and millions and millions. And because we have had a—such a good run, the house values have gone up tremendously, and these people have become wealthy. They weren’t wealthy. They’ve become wealthy because of their house.

And every time you make it more and more and more affordable for somebody to buy a house cheaply, you are actually hurting the value of those houses, obviously, because the one thing works in tandem with the other. And I don’t want to do anything that’s going to hurt the value of people that own a house, who, for the first time in their lives, are walking around the streets of whatever city they’re in, very proud that their house is worth $500-, $600-, $700,000.

Now, if I want to really crush the housing market, I could do that so fast and people could buy houses, but you would destroy a lot of people that already have houses. In some cases, they’ve mortgaged their house. And the mortgage would be very low, and all of a sudden the mortgage, without any changes, becomes very high and they end up losing the house.

Even a broken clock is right twice a day. Trump is absolutely correct, much as we hate to admit it. The market is incapable of allocating housing fairly. Only his solution is to favour the privileged and let the rest eat cake. The real solution is socialism. We must expropriate the banks and consolidate them into one national public bank and use the massive profits to forgive mortgages; and expropriate the big corporate landlords and convert their holdings to social and cooperative housing distributed on the basis of need while legislating a cap on rents at 10% of personal or household income. It's never been more possible to build a better world. We only need to stand up and take action.

Being a bit older it truly is something horrifying to see the same lines used over and over and over again to hustle the next generation after next generation after next generation.

The line is always something like: "Oil and gas is so held back! It's how we solve the economic issues and the affordability of life crisis!"

Reality:

In 1990 as a nation we did around 1.7 MILLION barrels every single day.

In 2014 that was around 3.8 MILLION barrels every single day.

Now that sits around 4.6 to 5+ MILLION barrels every single day. (Yes despite the misinformation machine it went up significantly during Trudeaus time in office as well...)

We are #4 in the world of 195 nations for oil extracted each day...

Some may then wonder "Maybe Alberta was held back?!" - No....

The reason Canada lagged for certain periods in the OECD for economic value/output is because in periods of Hydrocarbon glut/low prices other nations that focused more strongly on productivity increases, technology focus, research & development/innovation, and very very skilled/very very high-end manufacturing had more economic value/output....

Funny enough the Electrification Technology Era provides us a chance to diversify our economy versus falling deeper and deeper into the "resource curse" / "resource trap" and acquire all of those aforementioned dimensions.

It is the next era of energy & technology frameworks and we NEED to get our foot in the door for this or we will be looking at a more and more worsening cost of living crisis/quality of life crisis and opportunity crisis of the working class and most vulnerable in the coming decades.

You will notice I didn't even talk about the climate crisis or other environmental issues. The need to change/transition is clear even without those massively important topics. That is how obvious all of this is becoming.

Before the Iran War there was a massive Hydrocarbon Glut/Low Prices (Alberta was looking at around a 10 billion dollar deficit because of it) and we have even stronger Demand Destruction dimensions now and even more investment, research & development, implementation of Renewable Energy/Electrification Technology going on now because this conflict has highlighted the vulnerabilities associated with reliance on Hydrocarbon Energy/Technology to individuals, organizations, and whole nation-states.

We have to stop believing the Fossil Fuel Industry lines. They are based in misinformation and propaganda and are running us head first into ruin on countless fronts.
