Outdoor FONTAINEBLEAU ❤️‍🩹

These photos were taken this morning in the Diplodocus sector, while walking through the burned forest with the ONF and Vertige Média.

Nothing really prepares you for what you see.

For hundreds of meters, the forest has become a landscape of blackened trunks, scorched ground and silence. Many of these areas will remain closed for at least a year so the ONF teams can secure it.

Some of the boulders that mean the most to me were spared.
Thanks to the rocky chaos, where vegetation is naturally sparser, the fire lost intensity and several iconic climbing sectors survived.

Seeing those familiar rocks still standing brought relief.

But that feeling was quickly overshadowed by the scale of what had been lost around them.

Walking through this landscape made me realize something I've felt for a long time.
I've never really come to Fontainebleau just to climb.
The forest is not the backdrop to our sport.
It is the reason our sport exists here at all.

Every boulder draws its meaning from the pines that surround it, the shifting light through the canopy, the sand beneath our feet, the birds, the silence, and the history carried by these woods long before climbers arrived.
Without the forest, the rock is no longer quite the same.

Perhaps this tragedy is reminding us of something we were beginning to forget.
We are not here to consume this place.
We are invited into it.
And when you feel like a guest rather than an owner, your way of moving through a landscape changes.
You leave less behind. You pay more attention. You become grateful.

I hope that when these areas reopen, we return not only with our climbing shoes and chalk bags, but with a deeper awareness of what makes Fontainebleau so extraordinary.
Not just the boulders.
The living forest that shaped climbing history—and continues to shape all of us.

Maybe this is also an invitation to become a little more human: to slow down, to observe, to reconnect with the living world instead of simply passing through it. Because protecting nature doesn't begin with grand gestures. It begins with the way we choose to inhabit it, together.

Share the passion. Care for the place.

Outdoor Looking for a video, can't remember the boulder out the climber

Upvotes

The video I'm looking for was put up in the last year or so, and it consists of a climber on a difficult outdoor problem, probably a v15+. In the video, he's climbing in slow motion, with a voice over of every little piece of microbeta, it almost felt as if he was explaining the intensity of each muscle twitch of every muscle in his body as he lept for a pretty low percentage move; explaining the setup in the moves before to be successful in the dyno. I wanted to think it was on the Shaolin boulder but none of the videos are fitting the description. Anyone seen the clip im talking about?

Outdoor Outdoor bouldering North of Toronto

We're going close to Collingwood and Devil's Glen this weekend, and someone told me in passing there's some good boulders in the area to climb, but can't find any specific sources or guides online. We wouldn't mind travelling a bit for it (Log is a bit too far, at 2 1/2 hours), and we know there are good rock formations where we'll be, but does anyone know any places in the area we could look into for outdoor bouldering (bonus if you'd like to trudge there +mats with us lol). Feel free to dm etc.

Indoor Looking for people to go bouldering with in Edmonton

Upvotes

Hi everyone!

I'm looking to get into bouldering more regularly and was hoping to meet some people to climb with in Edmonton. I'm still fairly new, so I'm not looking for anything super competitive—just a friendly group or climbing buddy who's patient and enjoys having fun.

I'm generally available on evenings and weekends, and I'm happy to meet at any of the local climbing gyms.

If there are any climbing groups, Discord servers, or regular meetups you'd recommend, I'd really appreciate it. And if anyone else is also looking for a climbing buddy, feel free to comment or send me a message!

Thanks!

Advice/Beta Request Confusion about hip positioning

So in multiple videos I have watched people talk about positioning your hips below the „target hold“ but then they show themselves seemingly doing the opposite and positioning themselves below the hold they are already on, not the one they are trying to reach. Am I misunderstanding the word „target hold“ or what am I actually supposed to do. I’m currently in V1 and I‘m trying to improve my technique right now.

Okay wow 500 words is a lot, new topic, this rule is stupid. I’m just gonna type away now in hopes of reaching, okay there it is thanks for reading!

Edit: Herr is a link to a video I got on my instagram feed about this topic: https://www.instagram.com/reel/DaN4gnZMjb4

Indoor Mounting hangboard on pull up bar

Hey, I have a pull-up bar station and I'm thinking about adding a hangboard to it, but I'm not totally sure of the best way to mount it.

Would slings or straps tied around the bar hold up well, or is something hook-based more reliable long-term? My main worry is the board rotating or ending up crooked once I actually put weight on it mid-hang. The other option I'm weighing is skipping the hangboard entirely and just using small one-handed wooden blocks, alternating hands between sets instead.

Not sure which route makes more sense here — any advice from people who've tried this would be really appreciated!

Starting a few moves in but can't figure out this middle section. The wall is at a 45 degree angle, the toe hook feels very insecure and pops easily when i grab the left jug.

Advice/Beta Request looking for advise (footwork or general)

I'm not sure if this counts as a successful top but this is the best I've gotten on this run but next time I want to make sure I can actually get a hold longer at the top. This feels like it was a really good footwork challenge for me but I'm not sure if I did this in the best way possible and I would appreciate any advice on how to make this cleaner

Indoor Bouldering Communities in Seattle

I'm wondering if there are any groups/meetups out there in Seattle for bouldering? I have friends I climb with but I'm looking to just meet new people who are motivated to improve at climbing and just to make some friends as well.

I go to SBP these days, but I'd be open to trying a new gym. I've thought about joining the SBP Adult Team, but not sure. I'm a pretty intermediate climber myself but I've been enjoying just slowly getting better at it each week.

I know they probably exist but maybe I just haven't found it yet. It also might just be I'm too shy when I go to the gym so I don't end up talking to too many people. Any advice or direction would be much appreciated!

I felt I went about it a different way than the route setter intended. Does this look correct? Could I have done anything else at the end?

What do I need to do better, this is along a local creek along with some other boulders but I’ve been practicing on this one because there’s multiple routes I can’t do sling with a bunch I’m just not strong enough for yet, going to the climbing gym starting next week

Any tips for sticking this one move? I can’t figure out a way to control my swing as I cut. Maybe trying to keep the heel on longer? I’ve tried putting my right foot up, (matching feet on the long pinch), but the position feels very bad and I can’t generate much power. I’ve also tried changing the heel to a toe, but the pinch is on an overhang and is flat so I slipped before fulling generating the swing.

Indoor I'm So Much Better Barefoot...

I started indoors bouldering about a month ago. I've been climbing things all my life (mainly trees and upper storey windows) and I always take my footwear off to climb. There's no way I could shimmy a drainpipe otherwise. When I go climbing at the indoor bouldering gym obviously I don't go barefoot (it'd be inconsiderate otherwise, even if it weren't against the rules) but I feel like I'm climbing with a massive handicap. My feet have got no grip on tricky surfaces, My toes can't feel the surfaces, it's like I'm half-blindfolded.

Anyone else feel this way? Maybe this is just a skill gap thing and maybe I'll get much better at using footwear if I just keep at it?

(I'm currently using the free hire pairs that my gym offers and they're slippery and uncomfortable, which probably doesn't help.)

Advice/Beta Request Pulleys 😭

Sos guys,
My husband has been climbing for 2 years. V4 climber and can hang 20mm at body weight.
He’s been dealing with tweaky pulleys for about 3 months straight now (before that, it was on and off for a while)
Right now, it’s a tweaky L middle and R ring a2. Did not climb for a week, only did light (1/3 bodyweight) recruitment pulls. First climbing session back, both pulleys feel worse than ever and the R middle a2 is also now tweaky and it wasn’t before the week of rest and recruitment.
Advice is so appreciated.

Edit:
He also has shit health insurance. Otherwise I swear we would’ve gone to the Dr by now

Indoor Sooo i started.. what now

Hi everyone!

I recently started indoor bouldering with my siblings. By recently I mean I've done it four times in the last three weeks. I love it! I am very physically active and I do aerials so my thought process was that bouldering with help with my grip strength and help get accustomed to depending more on my body while in air.

I am having a lot of fun on the easiest parts of the wall and occasionally am able to get onto a V3 with some advice. My question is this - when I go with someone else they help me out a lot but I would also like to go alone sometime. How does that work?

I have a hard time thinking and climbing at the same time (hopefully it gets better haha) so a person that stays near and let's me know what I have around me or is able to try it themselves and figure out what we do differently is extremely helpful. How does one do it by themselves? Do you record your attempts to see what you're doing? Are you just able to figure things out on the fly?

Like sometimes I'll be stuck in a specific spot and no matter how many times I get up there I seem to be landing in the same position dumbfounded and by the time I'm down and trying again I already forgot how I did it and I make the same mistake over and over.

Also I feel silly going alone when I'm this confused. Everyone has been nice and supportive but I can't help but feel a little stupid falling from the same spot constantly and then just standing there and staring at the wall haha

At this point I'll take any advice regarding starting out and progressing and if someone could tell me that thinking while climbing is in fact a skill I can develop and not just have

Event IFSC Directing is just aweful

It used to be the camera work, but that actually got quite a bit better.
But now whoever is directing these comps is doing such a terrible job. I don’t understand. They have anyways turned into kind of a laughing stock already, can’t they get their act together? It’s not THAT hard. You see an athlete about to commit a move? How bout you just keep the wide angle camera live??
This happens again and again and again. It’s beyond me.
