[GUIDE] How to install Windows 11 on your Intel Mac

After seeing many posts asking how to install Windows 11 through BootCamp, I decided to make a clear and concise guide to walk new users through the process.

Please keep in mind that this method is used specifically because it supports the BootCamp assistant, keeping the installation process as close to "stock" as possible (besides the programs we use to end up with Windows 11). There are other methods to install Windows 11 on MacOS, but I believe this to be the easiest.

  • Step 1: Installing Windows 10
    • Download a 64 bit Windows 10.iso from Microsoft here.
      • (TIP) Download the .iso directly on your Mac in MacOS or on a PC running Linux. If on Windows, the link above will lead you to use Microsoft's Media Creation Tool. The tool works just fine, it is just much more annoying than a direct download to the .iso (which MacOS/Linux would provide to you instead).
  • Step 2: Install Win10 through BootCamp
    • Follow the basic instructions provided by BootCamp. If you run into trouble, please refer to Apple's official guide here.
      • Some older Mac’s require the Win10.iso be burned to a USB drive. If this is the case, BootCamp Assistant should take care of burning the .iso for you.
  • Step 3: Configuring Windows
    • Once Windows is installed, Apple's BootCamp drivers should automatically start installing. If not, please refer to Apple's official guide here.
    • Open BootCamp Assistant (in Windows) and set Windows as the default boot Operating System. This can be changed later to fit your preference.
    • Go to Settings (in Windows) and download/install all updates.
  • Step 4: Installing Windows 11
    • Download and run MediaCreationTool.bat from here.
      • For those of you who are not GitHub savvy, at the GitHub page, press the file named “MediaCreationTool.bat” and then press the download button.
      • If you have issues running the .bat file, try right clicking it and press open as Administrator.
    • Follow the prompts and select Auto Upgrade.
      • Basically, press 1 every time it asks for input. This will automatically select the version of Windows 11 that matches your current Win10 installation.
    • Allow the program to go through its process. Stay with the computer while it does this to make sure it does not sleep.
  • Step 5: Update Windows 11
    • Once again, go to Windows settings and download/install all updates. Enjoy!
      • At this point, you can change the default boot Operating System to whatever you want. I always set it to Windows while performing Windows updates so that the updates can install smoothly.

I hope this guide was helpful. If you have any questions or recommendations regarding this post, please leave them in the replies. Thanks!

Please note that Boot Camp currently does not support Apple Silicon Macs (M1/Pro/Max/Ultra and later)

Intel-based Macs (released from 2006-2020) are currently the only Macs supported by Boot Camp.

Running Windows under a virtual machine is possible however with a free solution such as VMware Fusion or UTM, or a paid solution such as Parallels Desktop for Mac.

Many Windows games and applications can also be ran using CrossOver or Apple's Game Porting Toolkit (GUIDE).

For running other operating systems as a separate bootable system such as Linux or OpenBSD on Apple Silicon devices, we refer you to r/AsahiLinux and the Asahi Linux website for more info.

Boot Camp Partitions (Need Help Identifying)

I've had Boot Camp for a few months now. Truth be told, my old Mac is so slow on the latest version of macOS that supports it, that I barely use it anymore. I'd like to delete the entire macOS portion of the drive and only have Windows.

On the Windows side, Disk Management is showing five partitions:

200 MB (EFI System Partition)

139.79 GB (Primary Partition)

92.80 GB (BOOTCAMP C:)

877 MB (Recovery Partition)

112 MB Unallocated

Am I correct in assuming that the only one belonging to macOS is the 139.79 GB one? Also, what's with the unallocated one?

Project-Falcon & 0x0000070c

Hello all!

I'm struggling for a while with a 2019 i9 32GB with a 5500m 4GB that crashes while running Fornite

I finally was able to install the 25.2.1 drivers using Project-Falcon (Thanks! This Rock!) but after the Loby, while jumping off the bus, my laptop crashes and gives me the 0x0000070c BSOD. I've read that this is linked to an issue with the Wi-Fi driver, which i have already disabled. But the issue continues.

Any idea what might be going on or what am i missing?

Install Windows 11 on MacBook Air 2015

I have a MacBook Air running Monterey. I’d like to install Windows 11 (I have a genuine product key and just downloaded an ISO).

I was following the steps from this link.

https://www.reddit.com/r/bootcamp/comments/1cnp7vj/just_converted_a_2015_macbook_air_to_windows_11/

I keep running into a wall though. Boot Camp keeps telling me the ISO is too large. I’ve already tried the Boot Camp ISO Converter, but it still doesn’t work. What should I do?

Why didn't the speaker and microphone drivers install when I installed Bootcamp on my MacBook?

When I installed Bootcamp 5.0.5033 on my 2012 MacBook Pro A1278, my speaker and microphone weren't working. When I asked AI, it said to check if the speaker and microphone drivers were installed, but it turned out they weren't there.

trying to dual boot macos (high sierra) and win10 on an unsupported macbook pro

I have been trying for days to get Windows 10 and macOS High Sierra on my MacBookPro8,1 (2011)

High Sierra is the latest version of macos on this Mac.

what I tried so far:

  • I successfully installed win10 with macos high sierra
  • The audio didn't work in Windows
  • I installed the Boot Camp drivers, but the sound still didn't work
  • I converted the drive to mbr and the sound started working
  • but when converting it deleted my macOS and I also mbr only supports four partitions this makes dual-boot difficult

What I'm trying to do:

  • macOS High Sierra with Windows 10
  • Working audio in Windows

I read about Hybrid MBR (GPT + MBR), but I didn't find a clear way on how to do it

did anyone have done this on a macbookpro8.1 Is Hybrid MBR possible or is there a better way

btw this mac used to dual-boot Windows and macos

My dad old me that if I did it he'll buy me a gaming laptop, so I want figure it out.

he had someone who was an expert in macs set it up, but after the hard drive broke i replaced it and lost the old setup and couldnt restore it

Any advice or guides and i want step by step this is my first post and thanks

Can’t install Windows 10 properly on 2010 21.5 inch iMac!

Greetings! As the title suggests, I’m facing a LOT of issues with Windows on this thing.

A couple of things to note: The SuperDrive is broken (as per usual with those slot loaders) and I’d like to avoid opening it up as much as I can! With that out of the way..

MacOS installed fine. No issues there at all. Installed a fresh 256GB SSD in the machine, installed High Sierra first and then MacOS Ventura through OCLP.

Do keep in mind that I’ve tried HS’s Bootcamp and, due to the age of the iMac, it needs a DVD copy of Windows 7. Remember what I said at first?

I then later tried just booting the Windows installer from USB through the option menu. Well, no matter what I do, it will NOT recognize a SINGLE external windows medium I make. I’ve tried W7, W8.1, W10, W11.. As far as disks go, I’ve tried an Intenso Twist Line USB3 32GB flash drive, zero luck. The same goes for other flash drives and external hdds I tried. Even in OpenCore it doesn’t see them..

Same installers worked on other Macs though, and machines in general. From my 2009 MacBook Pro to my friend’s 2016 12 inch Macbook.

I then tried following Ventura’s bootcamp process which DID get me to the desktop! Only then to install GPU drivers and break everything.

I also tried rEFInd with minimal luck, as when I press enter on the Windows Legacy entry it says ‘boot media not found’.

I’ve completely ran out of ideas.. Is there anything I can do?

WiFi REALLY SLOW? Showing only 20-30mb/s Download Speed? FIX FOUND** Windows 10 Bootcamp

FINALLY A FIX!!

  1. Hit Command+R

  2. Search ncpa.cpl

  3. Right click your WiFi and select properties

  4. Hit Configure

  5. Hit Driver

  6. Update driver

  7. Browse my computer for drivers

  8. Let me pick from a list of available drivers on my computer

  9. Now some computers will specify at the end of the text, "(Microsoft)" or "(Bootcamp)"

- If this applies to you, select "(Bootcamp)" and click next. It will then download and update the driver. BOOM, you now have FAST internet.

- If that doesn't apply to you, it will show the *date* of the update version in brackets at the end of the text. In my case:

Option 1: [11/21/2016] This is the one you want to update and download with**

Option 2: [4/21/2020] NOT this one

This is where people get tripped up because they think that downloading the most recent driver is going to fix the WiFi. Not in my case. For me, downloading and updating with the [11/21/2016] version WORKED! I went from 20mb/s to now a whopping 200mb/s!

Now if you have neither of the dates I mentioned, just try them all and one of them will get you back to high speed WiFi in no time! This is the only way!

Drivers for radeon pro 5300m

Post image
14 Upvotes

Hi, I have a question. I have a 2019 16-inch MacBook and I installed Windows because I want to play some casual games, but the performance is pretty bad. I've tried changing the drivers, but it doesn't improve much. Could you recommend any drivers? I already tried the ones from bootcampdrivers.com. I've attached a screenshot of the message I always get when I run a game. My specs are an i9, 32 GB of RAM, and an AMD Radeon Pro 5300M. I hope someone can help me.

Update: Well, I've been trying out the drivers that were suggested to me, and some did improve performance, but in the end I stuck with the AMD Pro Software drivers, which have given me the best performance. Regarding the temperatures I was told about, it's running between 65 and 85 degrees Celsius. But if anyone knows of any better drivers, please let me know so I can try them. I don't really know much about this. Thanks a lot for the recommendations.

Duda sobre cambiar Mac Pro 2019

Hola, chicos.

Frequent BSOD's on MacBook Pro 2019 16,1

Hello everyone!

I recently downloaded Windows 10 Pro (22H2) via Bootcamp on my MacBook Pro 2019 16".

The process went smoothly and I had no issues for the first day of usage, nor did I encounter any issues while I was setting it up.

However, the next day I got my first BSOD with an error code 0x0000070c.

I was extremely confused, so I decided to check via BlueScreenView what the error was pointing to, and it pointed to bcmpciedhd63.sys.
So I thought of rolling the driver back, I had 101.10.152.10. installed, and rolled it back to 101.10.152.4.

For a few hours, everything worked fine until I got another BSOD while playing music on Spotify out of nowhere, but this time the bug-check code was 0x0000081d, (instead of 0x0000070c) while still pointing to the same problematic bcmpciedhd63.sys driver.

I searched the web for more clues, and I eventually exhausted all efforts. I unchecked Power Management settings inside of the Broadcom 802.11ac properties, disabled the device and rebooted, and even ran RestoreHealth inside of Command Prompt.

But all my efforts went in vain since I BSOD'd twice again out of nowhere just performing general tasks, with the same bug check code and everything pointing to the same bcmpciedhd63.sys driver.

For now, I'm using macOS 15.7.8 until I can find a fix on Windows Bootcamp and have had no issues so far.

Does anyone know what I should do? Any help or advice is appreciated.

Thank you for your time!

Very weird throttling

MacBook Pro 13,3 (2016 15")

i7-6820HQ

Radeon Pro 455 2GB

16GB Ram

1TB External NVMe Thunderbolt SSD (~3500mbps), W11 25H2 latest

Bootcampdrivers blue 24.9.1 driver and amd official one tested same issues

87w apple charger works fine

Original issue

The CPU was permanently stuck around 800-1000 MHz in games after 1 2 minutes gradually dropping

Cyberpunk was getting around 14-33 FPS because of this.

I eventually discovered BD PROCHOT seemed to be involved.

I added a DisablePROCHOT.efi to my boot.

After that BD PROCHOT became available in ThrottleStop (it was greyed out before).

Disabling BD PROCHOT immediately fixed the CPU.

Now the CPU boosts normally:

3.2-4GHz sometimes even 3.6 for a little

25-46W

Normal boost clocks game runs at around 50fps

So that part definitely changed something.

But then after 30 seconds or about 5 minutes gpu gets locked to 300mhz and 8.8w and i get like 10fps.

*The cpu drops first but then i turn on throttlestop to fix it and after its fine but gpu locks to 300mhz abt 2minutes after. (Cause smth kept re enabling bd prochot)

On Linux i disabled bd prochot and nothing throttles it runs the same maybe a little worse than windows (w/o throttling )but after 20minutes or so my screen goes black but the pc is on and gpu was at 70-80°C and cpu mid 90s but it would jump back to mid 80s at times also audio issues on fedora 44, and on linux after disabling bd prochot cpu agressively boosts wattages and frequency.

Also one thing to point this weird throttling happens in Persona 5 Royal too, and the more i alt tab out of the game the more fps I lose + if the game window is not on focus my laptop dosent throttle and never reaches very high temps its like 88-93° cpu and gpu in the 60-70s and the games is at locked 120fps compared to 60s.

Windows & linux had fans at max speeds, whereas macos was on auto.

Macos dosent throttle cinebench r23 & rise of the tomb raider & arkham city & black ops 3 & metro exodus tested.

One more thing: this doesn't seem to be a simple thermal throttle. When it happens, the GPU is often only around 60–70°C while the CPU is around 85–95°C. ThrottleStop usually shows EDP OTHER and sometimes PL1, not THERMAL. The really strange part is that macOS doesn't exhibit this behavior under similar loads, which makes me wonder if this is Boot Camp/Windows power management, an SMC limitation, VRM overheating, or even something related to running Windows from an external SSD. Has anyone seen this exact combination of symptoms or found a permanent fix?

Sometimes the GPU instantly recovers to ~1270 MHz for about a second before dropping again.

The center above the keyboard becomes extremely hot just before the issue or before the black-screen crash.

The laptop has never been cleaned or repasted since I bought it used a few months ago.

The issue happens with both the official Apple Boot Camp AMD driver and BootCampDrivers.

!!!Battery health is 67!!!!

CPU / ThrottleStop

✅ Disabled BD PROCHOT (after using DisablePROCHOT.efi).

✅ Speed Shift enabled.

✅ EPP changes.

✅ Checked TPL settings.

✅ PL1/PL2 changed (100 W / 125 W).

✅ Looked at Limit Reasons (EDP OTHER, PL1).

✅ Confirmed CPU boosts to 3.2–3.6 GHz instead of being stuck at 800–1000 MHz.

EFI / OpenCore

✅ Installed rEFInd.

✅ Added DisablePROCHOT.efi.

✅ Accidentally booted BootKicker/OpenShell and recovered.

✅ Confirmed DisablePROCHOT works sometimes.

Drivers

✅ Official Apple Boot Camp AMD driver.

✅ BootCampDrivers.

✅ Considered newer Adrenalin versions.

Windows

✅ High Performance power plan.

✅ Tried refreshing AMD driver (Win+Ctrl+Shift+B).

✅ Checked HWiNFO/RTSS overlays.

✅ Tested on external SSD.

✅ Confirmed original 87 W charger.

Games tested

✅ Cyberpunk 2077.

✅ Persona 5 Royal.

✅ NieR: Automata.

All show similar issues.

GPU observations

✅ Normal state:

1200–1290 MHz.

16–37 W.

90–100% usage.

❌ Bad state:

300 MHz.

~8.8 W.

8–14 FPS.

❌ Sometimes GPU still reports 1270mhz for 50ms but FPS is only 3.

Temperatures

CPU up to 97°C.

GPU usually 60–83°C.

Linux

✅ Installed Fedora 44.

✅ Disabled BD PROCHOT.

✅ Tried fixing CS8409 audio.

✅ Investigated llvmpipe issue.

❌ Audio still broken.

❌ Display black screens after ~20 minutes.

Behaviour

✅ macOS does not have the issue.

❌ Windows throttles/crashes.

❌ Fedora eventually black screens.

✅ Alt-Tab changes behaviour.

✅ Moving the external SSD once caused Windows to freeze.

Ask me anything im js trying to fix this

Directly installing windows 11 from bootcamp assistant with added drivers.

This saga began because i wanted to do a fresh windows 11 install on my headless 2018 intel macbook pro with a broken display. It’s used exclusively in clamshell mode with an AMD egpu. Installing the GPU drivers in windows without the internal screen is typically impossible as Apple don’t properly expose the GPU to windows, giving a blank screen after install. Various individuals have contributed to the hack of copying the windows 11 install.wim in to a windows 10 install iso image. I took this 1 step further by preloading drivers to the image.

Prepare the install directory(Using macos)
Download the Windows 10 iso file from microsoft and mount it. Copy all files from the iso to some working directory except sources/install.wim or sources/install.esd

mktemp -d /tmp/working

rsync -a --no-perms --no-owner --no-group --exclude 'sources/install.wim' --exclude 'sources/install.esd' /Volumes/CCCOMA_X64FRE_EN-GB_DV9/ /tmp/working/

Preparing the Windows 11 install.wim (Using Windows)

On a Windows machine download the windows 11 iso file from microsoft and mount it. Copy the sources/install.wim file to some working directory. Right click and uncheck read only.

Use dism to get the index of the relevant windows version you want to install. For me Windows 11 Pro is index 6
Dism /Get-WimInfo /WimFile:C:\install.wim

Mount the image using the index
mkdir C:\offline

Dism /Mount-Image /ImageFile:C:\install.wim /Index:6 /MountDir:C:\offline

Make a folder of predownloaded driver files such as from the bootcamp package, or other gpu drivers etc. IntelChipset.exe can be unwrapped from shell by running "IntelChipset.exe -export ." I used the bootcamp GPU package from amd.com version 21.30.45.22.
Then use Dism to add the drivers to the target mounted image.
Dism /Image:C:\offline /Add-Driver /Driver:c:\BootcampDrivers /Recurse /ForceUnsigned

(Note this method does not install msi/exe packages so the gpu installers will need to be reinstalled later on to get the AMD utilities working. The bootcamp utility to restart into macos can be installed from powershell. Also not all drivers are actually in the bootcamp package. Windows update will add a load of other drivers. You could pull all the drivers from a working machine and use those instead)

Unmount and save changes
Dism /Unmount-Image /MountDir:C:\offline /Commit

Export image at index and compress with recovery/LZMS. Place the resultant install.esd file in our /tmp/working/sources directory
Dism /Export-Image /SourceImageFile:C:\install.wim /SourceIndex:6 /DestinationImagePath:C:\install.esd /Compress:recovery

I actually used wimlib-imagex on macos for the last step because my cheap broken macbook is about 100x faster than the windows machine i was using
brew install wimlib

sudo wimlib-imagex export ./install.wim 6 "/tmp/working/sources/install.esd" --solid --check)

Build the ISO
hdiutil makehybrid -o /tmp/Windows11ProBootcampDrivers.iso /tmp/working -iso -joliet -udf -default-volume-name Win11_BootCamp

Use the resulting iso in the Bootcamp Assistant as usual. The assistant will still download the 2.1GB bootcamp drivers and sideload it in the 10GB container, so you will need to make sure your resultant iso file is less than the total. My filesize was 6.67GB.

Voila, bootcamp directly installs Windows 11 and preinstalls the relevant drivers, solving my blank screen problem.

Have fun oh Intel hanger-oners. They may be out of date but they are still brilliant machines, extremely cheap for the spec, with fully functional 40gbps thunderbolt ports (eGPU and 40gb nvme enclosure recommended.i

Edit: Bonus:
Download latest windows release with updates from uudump.net
Download official bootcamp drivers using brigadier (only works in windows for me)
From Cmd+R boot recovery disable secure boot and enable booting from usb recommended
With a mbp screen fully disconnected, device manager reports an issue with the driver, although the screen appears to be working. I cut the dangling connection chip from the screen and plugged it back in, which tricks the system in to thinking the internal display is connected and everything works properly.
It’s easier to login with a passwordless local user account to help prevent windows selecting the nonexistent internal monitor as its main display.

From a finished machine get all drivers with DISM to pack into a new installer
`DISM /online /export-driver /destination:C:\drivers`

GPU drivers for AMD include:
From Apple. Note the bootcamp assistant downloaded package does not contain the latest Apple AMD drivers which later download from Apple software update as 6.1.17. It would be better to use these latest drivers directly as the older package may not contain drivers for later cards.

or delete those AMD drivers and try:
From AMD.com official. Reinstall after install. Note this package does not contain drivers for RX 6xxx series gpus, however, once installed, download the latest 6xxx Adrenalin drivers from AMD, extract the installer with 7z, right click the windows display adapter in device manager, update the driver using have disk and select the new amd driver inf file, select the correct gpu from the list and it will install the driver just fine. Both the dgpu and egpu display normally in the AMD Radeon Pro settings app. eGPU/AMD XConnect working normally,

From bootcampdrivers.com unofficial. (Active discord channel but releases have mostly stopped. May not reinstall cleanly without DDU)

Drivers for 2019 iMac (3.1 GHz)

Model here (idk if it’s needed): https://support.apple.com/en-us/111998

Edit: solved! Thank you all!

But I have a bootcamped 2019 iMac with a Radeon Pro 575x, and I keep getting pop ups when I try to play most games informing me that my drivers are out of date. I’m not a very technical person, and was wondering if someone could walk me through the process of installing new drivers/updating new drivers.
