Quarterly Questions Thread (APR - JUN 2026)

This is a safe place to ask any questions related to working at Boeing. It is focused on submitting application, timeline between the process, and what to expect working at one of the many sites. Be aware that Boeing is a massive Company with footprint all across the world so if you have a question, be sure to include your role and location.

We ask that you do some research and check the sub wiki that already will have answers to most of your questions. If your question is related to obtaining security clearance, the better resource would be at r/SecurityClearance.

For job openings, all job posts are located here.

Info on interview style and STAR format is here.

Work/Life balancešŸŽ Clipping your nails at work?

Am I missing out on a chargeline we can use for this? If not, why are you hunching over a trash can at work clipping your nails loudly like a freak?

Give a damn!

Pilot here. Flying a brand new MAX 8 and it’s got a bunch of connectors shoved down the F/O window which I haven’t seen before. No one at my company seems to know anything.

Are these supposed to be tucked away somewhere? Seems sloppy to me.

Is the San Diego office a satellite office?

• Upvotes

I recently applied to a role that is based in San Diego and I think I am a really good fit for this role but I wasn’t aware that Boeing had a presence in San Diego.

Is this a satellite office? It is an engineering role but I only thought manufacturing may be down here.

If it is, how do satellite offices work within Boeing?

Things seem to be going dark

Is it just me, or does it feel like there are some pretty heavy cost-cutting measures coming?
It almost feels like we could be heading towards another round of layoffs.
The reason I’m asking is that international travel seems to be getting flagged more and more, and my management has recently asked me to reschedule planned travel to next year.
Has anyone else noticed similar things happening in their teams or regions? Does this feel like the beginning of something bigger, or am I reading too much into it?

Considering current market trends and delivery delays, I wouldn't be interested in those either. Boeing needs to ensure that the older "new" jets remaining in inventory are priced competitively to move them.

Defense What is subsystem engineer?

Fairly recent grad. New to Boeing.

I hear people bring up ā€œtalk to subsystemsā€ for when I need to find things like docs and stuff. But what do they do exactly? The one I talk to doesn’t seem to write requirements and that’s a different ā€œSystem Engineerā€ apparently? All the testing itself is being done by other test engineers too. So what does the subsystem guy do?

Boeing relocation

I’m within a month of my start date & just received a phone call saying within the next two weeks the relocation team will be contacting me to assess my moving process.

Seems a bit last minute right?

Someone tell me something to make me feel more confident :/

California Offices - Mold/Musty

Hi all,

I've got asthma that's triggered by mold & damp.

For those of you based at the California sites (El Segundo, Long Beach etc.) are there issues with Mold/Musty smells in the buildings? I've got an opportunity to relocate but haven't been to those locations before so I'm unsure of what the buildings are like.

Thank you!

Careers Advice for internally moving and switching from finance to engineering

Hey guys! My husband works in finance and has a mechanical engineering degree. He has no engineer experience and is wanting to transfer to an entry level engineer position in PNW. He’s been talking with his manager and in communication with engineers in our location to see if they have any connections or anything he can help with/ shadow. Anyone have any other suggestions for us to move/ him to switch to engineering?

What are good signs that I did well in my interview with Boeing?

I applied at an Internal Audit role and had a panel interview last week. I think I did fairly well and the reason why I think that is because the interviewers asked follow up questions to experiences I shared. They also asked me which Business Unit I would prefer to work at (if I were to choose). I asked really good questions, including items I read in prior year 10-K and the website's newsroom. I'm still waiting to hear back from as they said that it would take a week (so by Friday this week). I'm curious, if you recently got a job offer, what do you think made you the strongest candidate (besides your experience)?

Commercial Why does the Boeing 737 max 7 need more runaway to land than the Boeing 737 max 8?

I like the design of the 737 max 7 more than the 737 max 8, but why does the 737 max 7 need more runway than the max 8 even though the max 7 is shorter than the max 8.

Pre-employmentšŸ¤” Ghosted after sending followup email?

I applied to a mid level position in SC and interviewed ~3 weeks ago. At the end of the interview, they said I answered well and thoroughly (I honestly thought I killed the interview). They said I would hear back positive or negative within two weeks. After 2.5 weeks, I sent a follow up and am currently being ghosted. Is this a situation where I’ll get an offer in 5-12 business months? Or am I being slowrolled on the denial? Should I abandon hope?

Boeing Factory Tour - Everett

Thumbnail experience.boeingfutureofflight.com

I’ve been thinking about doing the Boeing Everett Factory Tour with my partner next weekend now that all the World Cup madness is over.

Has anyone done it? Is it worth the $20 admission?

Jokingly, I told a bunch of my friends who will be working at Boeing Everett that I had just uncovered a hidden employee perk worth $46 a day. šŸ˜‚šŸ˜‚šŸ˜‚

Free self-guided tours every workday! 🤣 I swear if recruitment just leads with that, we would get even more quality candidates to sign up!

With the employee discount it’s closer to $20, but that's still a pretty nice perk!

Yes sir, your self guided tour of Everett Boeing starting from the parking lot to your final destination can take up to a full hour or more!!! Then you get 8.5 hours plus OT to reflect and absorb all of Boeing Everett, the largest manufacturing facility in the world!!! 🤣🤣🤪

I love Boeing enough to spend $20 per ticket to tour the Everett factory. I also want to check out the new North Line, and I think it would be a great place to bring friends and family when they're visiting from out of town.

For those who've taken the tour, what did you think? Worth it? What’s the coolest part? And do they end the tour at the gift shop? Like Disneyland rides šŸ˜‚

Careers Workplace Culture

I apologize in advance if I’m violating the community rules. I recently interviewed for a position in Boeing. How is workplace culture? Is the company loyal to its employees or does the company view employees as only a number?

New Hireāœˆļø New Grad SWE Joining Boeing, Looking to Connect

Hey everyone! Not sure if this is the right place for this, but I figured I'd give it a shot.

I'm a new grad joining Boeing soon as a Software Engineer based in St. Louis, and I was hoping to connect with other SWEs here. I'd love to hear about your experiences, things like the work culture, onboarding, day-to-day work, tech stack, career growth, and any advice you'd give someone just starting out.

If you're an SWE at Boeing (or anyone willing to help), I'd really appreciate hearing from you. Feel free to comment below or send me a DM. Looking forward to connecting!

Curious how many years of experience people had when you got promoted? Any general thoughts how to work towards it? Also any idea if diagonal bumps will ever come back?

Commercial @lufthansa is reportedly preparing a major widebody aircraft order in 2027, with @boeing’s 777-9 and @airbus’s A350-1000 emerging as the leading contenders.

Even after achieving certification, the production and CI&R process appears unlikely to support timely customer deliveries. With Lufthansa already forced to acquire A350-1000s to bridge capacity gaps, how does Boeing plan to accelerate the transition from certification to full-rate delivery for the 777X?

A Referendum on Boeing: This winner-take-all order is seen as a critical test for Boeing. Lufthansa is slated to be the launch customer for the long-delayed Boeing 777X(now targeted for early 2027 deliveries). However, years of setbacks have already forced Lufthansa to adapt, prompting them to order 15 A350-1000s to bridge the capacity gap.
