These tournaments are meant to give novice players the opportunity to play against similarly skilled peers and measure their progress. If you're unsure whether you're "new" enough to join in, the general metric used is having around 500 games or less. These tournaments are for truly new players who are often still learning the system mechanics. If you are a highly skilled/ranked player from another game like Strive or Uni2 but have little time in BBCF, there's also a good chance you're too skilled to be playing in these brackets. They're meant to help onboard total novices!

If you're worried you're too new or underprepared for this, don't be. Layer One events are expressly set up to help new players learn to play in online tournaments and progress into intermediate play. You cannot be too new for Layer One!

We usually get a few new signups from reddit each month so hopefully that tradition continues. This is already our biggest bracket ever with over 40 participants, but there are still spots open. Even if it's full, we maintain a registration standby on Discord so pop in there. There are usually drops and schedule changes, and last tournament we brought in three players from standby!

I know ya'll hate Carl's guts, but ngl, Marionette Purple's I is probably my favorite song on this list since Rebellion and Lust SIN II. It's so frickin good, man, easy S tier imo. II is a solid B tier at worst tho.

Also, there were a lot of complaints about Oriental Flower II being at C, since other comments saying it should be A or S tier got equal upvotes after I posted the Arakune post. If enough people care, I'll move it up to B or the bottom of A.

You are seriously gonna tell me that the move that begins with him PUNCHING isn't called *GAUNTLET* hades?

And the one where he summons a hellish wave with teeth isn't called hell's *FANG?*

And it might just be me but I feel like a move that's meant to be a spin kick would make more sense with the name dead spike. That's purely a vibes thing though.

And when I'm out of magatama, the only thing I can do is swing my sword or just gamble with counters.

I saw a post regarding BB characters being dominants from FFXVI and since I'm a big fan of the game, I decided to make my own. But that post was deleted so I fixed it a little bit and then offer some explanations based on my research.

Dominant of Ifrit (Ragna the Bloodedge) - Ragna already has the perfect counterpart in FFXVI - Clive Rosfield. Both are main characters with dark pasts (losing their family) and red right arms and struggling to control their powers in the beginning and both of their journeys has them accepting the monsters within and becoming stronger for it. Their tragic endings are also similar - Ragna and Clive both sacrificed themselves to save the world. Ifrit would find the perfect vessel in Ragna.

Dominant of Bahamut (Jin Kisaragi) - Yes, we all know we want Jin's Eikon to be Shiva. But there's one problem - Shiva in FFXVI historically only chooses "Female" Dominants. Even the previous Dominant of Shiva was a Queen, and among others, all of Shiva's Dominants have always been women according to the Rising Tides DLC so Shiva's vessels are completely "gender-locked". Jin is canonically male, so Shiva won't choose him. But luckily, there's another Eikon that is perfectly suited for Jin in the FFXVI universe - Bahamut the Dragon King. The canonical Dominant of Bahamut is Dion Lesage - a blonde-haired pretty-boy prince of a high kingdom who is beloved by the people and commands a loyal army of knights. Like Dion, Jin himself is a blonde-haired pretty-boy prince (the next in-line to be the heir of the Kisaragi Family) and beloved by the public for being a hero and protector. Also like Dion, Jin himself serves a high kingdom (the Novus Orbis Librarium) and commands his own legions of soldiers. The NOL soldiers call themselves "The Knights of the Blue Flame" so let's call them knights too, and the Bahamut in this universe uses blue-colored flames and some lasers. The Bahamut in this universe is also associated with Light and Order - two things that Jin also has an affinity with (Power of Order and the "Light" to Ragna's "Darkness"). Bahamut would definitely choose Jin.

Dominant of Garuda (Tsubaki Yayoi) - Tsubaki herself already has avian motifs and bird-like features in her neutral state - feathers flying everywhere and has the ability to fly and charge forward in a lot of her attacks. Of course, Garuda would choose her.

Dominant of Shiva (Es) - Es is definitely the perfect fit for Shiva because not only is she a female character (Shiva's preference), but she is the resident "Ice Queen" - elegant, cool and emotionless like cold ice. Her attacks using her weapon is also very ice-like - light blue-colored attack weapon crest, patterns and motifs. A lot of Es's attacks leave ice-like geometric patterns across the arena. Shiva would DEFINITELY love her.

I grabbed a Rachel 3D model from Blazblue: Clonephantasma(3DS) and started messing with it a bit. I am a baby in the 3D space, so it's been a fun new experience. For now, all I did was redraw the textures, adjusted the model very slightly, and added some shaders. Kinda happy with it NGL xd

Both variants of Reppu are excellent; they both make Bang feel like the shonen protag that he is lmao

The only other fighting game I ever really played was Strive which has a dash macro. Yeah I know. Using a keyboard/leverless btw.

I am entirely unused to double tapping 6 or 4 to dash. It feels sluggish to perform like I am delaying a button to frame trap someone... except its just my dash so it feels awful. Its more cumbersome of an input than half circles supers imo.

Do I have to start inputting the dash command so that the second forward is input just as I am ready to move? Is that how yall manage to make it look like you smoothly transition from whatever into a dash? I tried doing this but Im not sure if im doing it right because it seems very tight timing. I can do IADs fairly competently though strangely enough. Its just grounded movement that feels really bad. Anything you can chime in about learning how to (sigh) dash properly would really help me out.

I swear I went looking for someone answering this before, but it seems its just a stupidly fundamental question.

TLDR: How do you smoothly dash in this game?

I was surprised to hear that not many know (from my circle) or that don't use this super install to block attacks but only in neutral or to cancel, wondering if I wasn't the only one who knew about this property. I mean, it can even block unblockables and have a free turn (+ being still in OD locks them in the incoming combo unless they have for RC).

Like, it's not even impractical as it can block every hit as long as it's before the Roar, so you can literally eat DP or DDs or even Astral if you just time your 8D with the hit (if you are good at rhythm games I suppose).

[I have another video blocking OD Devoured by Darkness, DP and Astral with the Install but it only allows me to upload 1 at a time, and now I'm at the job so I can't go back and record it all in one go... So this is just a taste.]

Been re-watching Akame Ga Kill! recently and I couldn't get over it. If I get inspired enough, I might draw Tatsumi holding a Jin Kisaragi plush doll and Mine holding a Esdeath plush doll and having the plushies KISS each other!

I still have some projects on the way. Like Ragna and Velvet wedding version and Jin and Esdeath wedding version in one picture. Wish me luck!
