I just watched Plaything and I am honestly shocked by the low rating. So many people are calling it the worst episode of the season, while for me it was probably one of the most personally meaningful.

Maybe I am biased because I have struggled with mental health, work with people going through addiction and psychological distress, and have also taken psychedelics seriously. But this episode understood something that is almost impossible to explain to someone who has never experienced an altered state of consciousness. That feeling that you have seen something enormous, something more real than normal reality, but the moment you try explaining it you sound insane.

The part about the limits of language was probably my favourite. Language is not reality. It is just a rough system of symbols we use to point towards experiences. There are things you can experience through psychedelics, psychosis or deep meditation that simply do not fit into ordinary words. Once you translate them into language, most of the actual experience is already lost.

And I don’t think the episode was actually ambiguous about whether Colin was delusional. The ending makes it pretty clear that the beings really did enter everyone’s minds, exactly as he said they would. The interesting part is that everyone had already decided he was insane before giving any serious attention to what he was trying to communicate. Even the viewer is encouraged to dismiss him because his language, appearance and behaviour fit our idea of madness.

That is what I think many people missed. They watched it as a literal story about some silly video-game creatures. But it was really about consciousness, neurodivergence, isolation and how quickly we dismiss experiences that cannot be translated into normal language. If an intelligence completely outside ordinary human perception tried communicating with us, it probably would sound like psychosis until the moment everyone else experienced it too.

I probably shouldn’t say only neurodivergent people can understand it, but I do think people who have experienced mental illness, psychedelics or other altered states will feel this episode differently. Some things make complete sense before language gets involved.

And her mum can never replace the system or get it fixed. I also enjoyed the parallel between Sara not seeing her grandfather having a heart attack bc of the filter, then not noticing how much she's hurting her mum bc the filters on again, it's so ironic.

I was rewatching the episode and noticed something about the very first scene at the restaurant. When Kenny is on his break, his coworker is bragging about a photo he got of a local yoga teacher, and he seems genuinely shocked that he actually has it.

Most people just think the coworkers are being gross, but I think the yoga teacher was actually a past victim of the hackers. We already know the hackers target a bunch of different people at the same time, like Hector and the CEO.

If the coworker was surprised to get the photo, it's probably because the yoga teacher didn't send it to him. The hackers probably broke into her phone first and leaked her stuff to the community because she didn't do what they wanted, right before they moved on to Kenny. It makes the opening scene way creepier because the hackers were already messing up lives right next to Kenny before he even went home. What do you think?

just wanted to defend it and jot down some thoughts. to me it was obvious that chris died. the way everyone just resigned, especially barry. i feel like he would've look more devestated if jaden had died. no one was suprised because everyone had expected it.

me saying that kinda defeats the purpose of the ending but i just wanted to make that clear for people who were mad/afraid jaden died!! i do wish that we could've known why the daughter killed herself, but to play devils advocate it's kind of poetic how her mom was struggling to accept that she might never know why her daughter commited suicide and now that task is passed on to us to accept!

people found chris unsympathetic and the dialogue between him and jaden arbitrary/their bond unearned but i disagree!! he took him out of the trunk when he said he was claustophobic. he wiped the vomit off his face with the bag when he took it off his head. he tried to lie and comfort him that the gun wasn't real. and it became very obvious that he was never going to kill jaden. the monologue sealed the deal for him (or maybe it's because damsons acting really sold it lol)

i found the suspense earned and built up well seeing everything unfold had me on the edge of my seat by the end.

my only qualm would be that it felt a bit preachy? which i guess is the point of black mirror in general it just left a bit of a bad taste in my mouth.

I enjoyed USS Callister: Into Infinity overall, but two things kept bothering me, and I’m wondering whether I missed an explanation.

The first is how they create a complete adult copy of someone from DNA left on a cup or lollipop. DNA can influence physical traits, brain development and maybe certain tendencies, but it doesn’t contain memories, personality in its finished form, or learned skills.

So when they create a copy of Daly, why does he already know how to program? His coding knowledge should exist in the neural connections built through years of learning, not in his saliva. A real genetic clone would begin life as a baby, not immediately wake up with the original person’s entire mind.

I know the original episode already asked us to accept this technology, so maybe it is just one of the rules of the universe. But it feels less like DNA cloning and more like a complete brain scan somehow being extracted from DNA.

The ending with Nanette confused me even more. Her physical body was described as basically brain-dead, but they streamed her digital consciousness back into her and she woke up.

Even if consciousness could be converted into software, the biological brain would still need to work. Brain death is not the same as an empty computer waiting for an operating system. The brain is both the storage and the hardware. If its cells and neural pathways are dead, uploading information should not repair them.

Maybe she wasn’t literally brain-dead and was only in a coma with enough functioning brain tissue left. But the episode didn’t explain that, or show that the technology could physically rebuild damaged brain tissue.

I can accept soft sci-fi when it supports the story, but this felt like the writers used “uploading consciousness” to skip over the biology completely.

Did anyone else have trouble accepting this, or is there an explanation in the episode that I missed?

La comunidad de Sideral se hace llamar "Los dibujitos" o "La Beba Army" (porque en Perú, "beba" o "bebita" es un término despectivo para referirse a personas que parecen ser homosexuales). Esta comunidad no solo ha acosado a Sideral en varias ocasiones, publicando su información personal en Google Maps como "Casa de Sideral", sino que también fue responsable de uno de los eventos más memorables de la historia peruana: la "Fiesta del Chocolate de Sideral". Lo que comenzó como una broma del streamer terminó convirtiéndose en realidad, ya que su propia comunidad empezó a crear publicidad engañosa, colocando anuncios en cines y contratando a celebridades para promocionar el evento. Finalmente, el streamer decidió celebrarlo en el distrito de Los Olivos. Lo que comenzó como un gesto amable de regalar leche con chocolate, panettone y obsequios a los niños de Los Olivos se transformó en un evento que terminó mal, como una escena de película. El "Proyecto X" incluso llegó a las noticias.

Aquí comenzó el "boom" de las caricaturas, ya que varios periodistas escribieron artículos sobre ellas. Luego, hackearon esos canales o, en tono de broma, amenazaron a los presentadores en nombre de Jesús Luján Carrión (el nombre real de Sideral). Esto dio lugar a noticias falsas donde Sideral era acusado de los crímenes más atroces, como burlarse de la guerra en Medio Oriente o ser colega de Epstein.

Algún día, algo le pasará a este tipo, y será culpa de todos y de nadie a la vez, especialmente porque su propia comunidad prácticamente controla su vida.

Obviamente, te lo he contado todo de forma muy resumida, porque créeme cuando te digo que la historia es muy larga, pero solo te he dado lo básico. ¿Qué opinas? ¿Crees que podría ser fácilmente un episodio de Black Mirror?

To preface this, I would say I’m a lukewarm black mirror viewer compared to a lot of the rest of the people in this sub (meaning I have watched probably only 11-12 episodes) My favorite is white Christmas but I have seen how people really did not enjoy hotel reverie and so I decided to watch it. I really just do not get why people did not like it. I personally thought the story was amazing and the two actors did such a good job of slowly and meticulously forming such a noticeable relationship in such a short episode. I think a lot of people did not like Issa Rae’s acting but I thought she was phenomenal. I’m curious to hear thoughts.

I was just watching a Jason Manford comedy special and he mentioned his wife produced episodes of Black Mirror, the LUCKY BASTARD!

i actually am enjoying my time. the episodes are never the same, always on the edge of my seat so far, its great!

now… im at a point in the show where its getting me emotionally. white bear had me debating reality, shut up and dance just kept getting more and more messed up as the episode went on… its been a roller coaster.

now.. the episode right here, San Junipero, tugged at the heart strings, had me a bit emotional, it was a great wholesome episode! the first one i actually came across. i loved it! then the episode after… Men Against Fire… now we back to the fucked up bullshit😭😭

The man on the statue is Rene Baterbonia, he was a basketball player and died in a recent drowning incident. His dead went viral on how his coach treats him bad and many people are delusional that Rene Baterbonia can be seen everywhere.

This is went too dark when they milk him for views on social media and makes a tons of merch about him. His parents didn't care because they got popular due to his death.

They praise him like a god and make a statue like this on video. The statue is so odd and very creepy.

Does anyone know what episode of black mirror the cover is from? Or is it showing two ladies from different episodes? I remember hearing a while ago that black mirror did a race bending ep, but i’m pretty sure I’ve watched all the eps (even bandersnatch before they removed it) and I don’t remember anything like that. Expect for the one ep where the mc, a black women, played a white actor in a movie and got stuck. But I’m like 90% pretty sure that’s not the ep showing on the cover. I really like Black Mirror so it’s lowkey been driving crazy thinking there’s a ep I haven’t watched yet lol. Thanks in advance :)

(Besides National Anthem) For me it was in White Christmas how the cookie was in the camera for 2 weeks, then 6 months, then at the end the guy was cranked up to 1,000 years a minute. Knowing that he has to spend 1.4 million years in that kitchen is just so insane to think about.

I just can’t fathom how every minute that passes by for me is 1,000 years for someone else. Millers planet in interstellar is another example
