Read This Before You Submit !

If you want to get the best possible outcome from posting your position on this /sub, there are a couple of things you can do to help,

  1. Make your video at least 30-40 secs long [ no longer than 60 secs ] This will allow you to settle in to your pedal stroke and give viewers enough time to 'look around' your position.
  2. Post a minimum of 2 angles. #1 Seat height, showing the entire bike and rider from the top of the head to the bottom of the pedal stroke. #2 from the front dead center about head tube height. If you shoot a vertical format on your phone that might help you fit yourself within the frame. #3 from the rear, at seat height, can also be vertical format for cropping.
  3. Post a shot of your bike side on without you on it. This lets people see the 'build' as far as seatpost seatback, seat rail position & headset spacers

The more visual and information you give the better the possibility of good feedback.

Ride on!

Dear mods, save this sub

There are a lot of generous and knowledgeable people here giving thoughtful bike-fit advice for free. Their effort is being undermined by a steady stream of unusable videos showing riders leaning against walls, doorframes or furniture while pedalling backwards.

Those clips don’t show a normal pedal stroke, balance, loading, posture or movement under realistic riding conditions. There’s very little anyone can assess from them, yet they keep filling the sub and drawing attention away from posts where useful feedback is actually possible.

The existing submission guidance is already clear about video length, camera angles and showing the whole rider and bike. It should also explicitly require riders to pedal forwards on a trainer or rollers, without supporting themselves against anything.

Please make “no backwards pedalling and no leaning against objects” an actual submission rule, and remove posts that ignore it.

The people giving detailed advice here are what make the sub useful. Their time shouldn’t be choked by videos that make meaningful assessment impossible.

Improving bike fit, any suggestions?

Hi,

I hope you can help me assess and improve my riding position.

I ride a 2024 Merida Scultura 6000 in size S and I’m 170 cm tall. I’ve previously had a professional bike fit. The bike is fitted with a 100 mm stem and a 400 mm wide handlebar.

Overall, the position feels comfortable, especially on shorter and moderately paced rides. However, during longer and more intensive rides, I sometimes experience discomfort in my lower back, mainly on both sides just above my hips.

I’d be interested to hear your opinion on my current position and whether you notice anything that could be contributing to this discomfort. In particular, I’m wondering whether the reach, handlebar height, pelvic position or saddle setup could still be improved.

Any feedback or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance for your help.

neck pain – looking for fit advice

Hi everyone,

I made a few significant changes to my setup after getting a lot of helpful feedback here, but I'm still dealing with neck pain on rides longer than about 60 minutes.

Here's my current setup:

  • Bike: Canyon Grizl 7 AL (size L)
  • Handlebar: Zipp Service Course SL 70 XPLR, 400 mm
  • Stem: reduced from the stock 90 mm to 70 mm
  • Crank length: reduced from 175 mm to 170 mm

The new cockpit definitely feels better than before, especially around the hoods, but the neck pain is still there. It usually starts after about an hour and gradually gets worse. It's mostly muscular pain and stiffness in the back of my neck rather than numbness or tingling.

Before I start changing more parts, I'd love to get some opinions:

  • Does anything in my position stand out from the video?
  • Does the cockpit still look too long or too low?
  • I’ve been reading a bit about pelvic rotation and how it can affect upper-body comfort. Do you think my pelvis is rotating properly, or does anything look off there?
  • Could the neck pain be related to something other than the cockpit (e.g. saddle position, stack, flexibility, or core strength)?
  • If you've had similar symptoms, what ended up fixing them?

I'd really appreciate a second pair of eyes. Thanks!

Improving My Bike Fit – What Do You Think?

Hi,

I hope you can help me improve my riding position on the bike.

My previous bike was a Specialized Aethos, and I now ride this Scott Foil in size M. I'm 179 cm tall, and my saddle height is currently set at 73.4 cm. The stem is 110 mm, the handlebar reach is 85 mm, and the handlebar width is 420 mm.

Today I made some adjustments using AI to improve my position compared to how it was before. I already feel more comfortable, but I'd like to hear your opinion on the final position I've settled on.

Tomorrow I'll take the bike out for a two-hour ride to see how it feels in real-world conditions.

Thanks in advance for your help. Any feedback or suggestions are greatly appreciated.

I’m 179cm height 84,5cm inseam. The bike is a Canyon grizl 5. Changed to 5cm stem and 42cm bar.

After 1/2 hours my thumb goes numb.

Size guide

What is more important? The size guide that each company gives for their bikes to match the rider's height? Or how you feel on the bike?

— I couldn’t find a box or ikea bag for my head - please don’t penalise me for this —

I’m 170mm, inseam 77cm (legs are or the shorter size).

Cube Agree, size 53 (small). Sella Italia slr boost fitted. 170mm cranks.

I get saddle sore after 40-50km, and lower back pain. This video was taken after adjusting saddle height, fore&aft etc a number of times to find what has been the most comfortable position I’ve ridden in a while, but I am still sore, I’ve since dropped a tiny bit more and been riding more heel than this video suggests.

I’ll be booking a bike fit — but want to give myself a run up when they tell me the bike is too big and I should have got a size 50.

Questions I have;
- Thoughts on frame sizing?
- Stem too high? Looking at shoulder blades pinching slightly
- Stock stem is 90cm. Do I go shorter?

Should I cut off the part above the stem?

There was a spacer under the stem but this feels much better in terms of fitting

Just wanted to know if it's fine to keep it like this or should I cut it off

Kids Shotgun bike seat recommendations

I’m looking for recommendations on a shotgun style bike seat for my bike. I have a Trek Dual Sport and not sure which one to get or if my style of bike is not compatible. Most of these seats are recommended for mountain bikes have what I have seen. Any suggestions on real world experiences. Thank you

Update:old, overweight, still feel like I'm mid push-up at all times

My previous post described the problem and some proposed solutions, but I'm still struggling.

https://www.reddit.com/r/bikefit/s/DcI4t51eAP

A couple hundred miles riding in, 30 lbs lost (down to 180), and many micro adjustments later, and even a short ride still leaves my wrists, palms, and above my elbows in back just mangled.

It literally feels like I'm supporting my entire upper body on my hands and wrists. Even when pedaling hard, if I take my hands off the bars, I instantly fall forward. Yes, I've got 20 more lbs to lose, and I know my core is playdough, and I'm working on both, but there's got to be something I can do to make riding not painful in the meantime.

I installed a Velo Orange Grand Cru seatpost with a 30mm setback and slammed the seat back too. Yet I still feel like I need to be another full inch rearward to properly unweight my hands.

Besides my weak core and fat belly, I've got a ridiculously long torso and stubby little legs (30" true inseam, but just under I'm 5'9" tall). I'm running 153mm cranks.

Give me some hope here, team; I'm getting really discouraged. What should I try, even as a stop gap until I build strength?

Hood Rotation - A slow process or all-in?

I want to experiement with rotating my hoods inward to see what, if any, difference it will make while riding. I was first going to do this on my road bike on the trainer (as opposed to the road), to see what it felt like and to get used to it. I'm wondering if people who have done this, slowly move their hoods inward until they find the ideal position, or go all-in aero at once and throw caution to the wind. Any advice would be appreciated.

I feel like my position looks quite bad here. Shoulders looking too forward maybe? I do feel like a need to stretch my upper body quite often whilst riding.

My knee also looks high to me but the cranks are 172.5mm. Any thoughts would be appreciated!
