IMPORTANT: Violation in subreddit rules will result in posts taken down and temporaty/permanent user bans

Lately this subreddit has become incredibly divisive, as has the world around us but this subreddit for a while was a great place full of discussion and respect but this has taken a very serious nose dive recently and we are going to be more aggressive with the rules we have in place, specifically rules 1 and 4.

Rule 1

  • Please be nice to each other. Vulgar name calling, disrespect based on someone's beliefs or disagreeing with someone aggressively is unnecessary and will no longer be allowed. We will be removing posts that seem to be inciting others to anger and hostility.

Rule 4

  • This is obviously difficult to resolve given the current politcal climate but we need to make sure we don't turn this subreddit into a one sided one. I know people exist in the middle, the left, the right, the fringes, everywhere, but we can't have this subreddit be taken over by one type of side and create an atmosphere of isolating the other side of inciting them to respond in a vengeful way. Some political posts will be tolerated but ones without verifiable information or ones that seem unnecessarily against the other side will be removed as well.

This will be updated as time goes on but please try making this a better place despite all the differences we have, think before you post or comment. We do have a discord as well if you'd like to speak to someone on there directly to move it off of here so this doesn't become a platform for arguing and anger, the world has enough of that.

Traffic Rt 17 chaos

I am able to spend very little time navigating Rt 17 on the regular (THANK GOD), but today I needed to pick up something at the store West Elm. All good getting there, but getting out of the parking lot and back on 17 was near impossible! There was NEVER a break in traffic! I would probably still be sitting there if some other driver hadn't pulled off and blocked the shoulder right before the parking lot exit long enough for me to edge out and then go kamikaze style merge into the right lane. Horns were blown, accidents nearly occurred. Total CHAOS! It was absolutely ridiculous and I never do anything like that normally but I had no other choice. I was literally sitting there for at least 10 minutes before I did that, as was the person before me who basically did the same thing. What do others do? How is that supposed to be handled? Should I still be sitting there waiting my turn?? Not that I plan on venturing over there again any time soon lol

ETA - Sorry, I wasn't clear in my original post that the shoulder was basically being used as an exit lane by oncoming traffic for the exit that was coming up. I couldn't even get on the shoulder until the other driver happened to block the shoulder/lane. But drivers were flying around him so it was a very brief break and basically no room to merge bc of the exit traffic.

Anyway, thank you to those who were being kind and helpful. I appreciate you 😊

Real Estate Midland Park School District

Would love to hear your thoughts on the 3 schools that make up the district whether you’re a parent of a child that attends/attended or you are/were a student. Can you tell me about:

-diversity of teacher and student populations
-academics in general
-college prep (what colleges did your child/you end up in? what careers?)
-sports
-extracurricular programs outside of sports
-overall happiness (are the families friendly, is there community?)

Considering moving and deciding if we should hold out for Ridgewood/Glen Rock which is a bit of a stretch for us or make the jump with Midland Park which is a bit more ā€œaffordableā€ if that’s helpful context.

Discussion Loved one being admitted to Ramapo Ridge— what should I expect?

Has anyone here had experience with Ramapo Ridge Behavioral Health in Wyckoff, NJ either as a patient or family member? I’m trying to understand what the program is like, what the staff are like, and what to expect after discharge. I’d appreciate any experiences—positive or negative.

Discussion Tell me about KBBQ in Bergen County. Went to Moon in Hackensack recently and it seemed like a good option but I have nothing to compare it to

I have never been to KBBQ before, so Moon was my first experience. Food was good and the place was bright and clean with easy parking.

But I also have no frame of reference, so here are a few questions that I had.

The grill plate kept on getting burned so they replaced it several times. They said that was commonplace but it seems like it would have been better to keep it well oiled to avoid this.

Moon offers Hot Pot and KBBQ at the same time. Is this common among other places? Much of the food in the buffet was meant for hot pot. I suppose I could cook ramen and fish balls on the grill.

Are there other places that you guys recommend for a KBBQ novice?

Discussion Thoughts on outdoor playground in backyard?

Hi - curious to see your thoughts on setting up outdoor playgrounds in the backyard. I have two boys aged at 4,1. Heard from multiple people that it only last for couple seasons (and kids find something more interesting), hard to dismantle and sell, and expensive…

Not sure if this is a good investment… any advice? Thanks!

Anyone know of any fenced in dog parks where a pup could run around in some grass? I've visited a few locations google has suggested that either have no grass or that don't actually exist.

Discussion Where do people in their 20s actually hang out in Bergen County?

Grew up in Bergen, live in Fort Lee now, and after a couple years working in the city I've realized my entire social life is on the other side of the river. Feels like everyone my age here either commutes in to socialize or knows spots I haven't found.

So, 20s crowd: where do you actually go? Bars, gym communities, food spots that aren't all families, places people just meet organically. Anywhere from Fort Lee up through Hackensack/Ridgewood/Paramus. I'm at my gym in Paramus most nights after work, and I'm always down for food adventures or hitting Bean & Bean / iPic.

If anyone reading this is also in their 20s, feel free to message me. Happy to grab a beer or coffee and meet people from the area.

Thanks šŸ™
