Welcome to the monthly Buy / Sell / Trade thread for the Baton Rouge area. Whether you're looking to score a deal on a video game or movie, find a roommate, or trade something local, this is the spot to share your listings and links! Gofundme links are allowed; however, they will be reviewed.
Just a quick note: to keep things tidy, please keep all buy / sell / trade posts in this thread. Standalone posts in the subreddit will be removed so everything stays easy to find.
Happy swapping!
Before moving forward with any deal, it's a good idea to check out the post and comment history of the person you're chatting with. If their account looks new or doesn’t have much activity, that doesn’t always mean something’s wrong but it’s smart to ask for extra proof of the item, just to be sure.
Trust your instincts and do a little due diligence. Services like SpyDialer can help verify phone numbers. VOIP or out-of-state numbers can sometimes be red flags (though not always).
If you're meeting in person, aim for a public spot with lots of people and/or security. A great option is the Police Station on Airline (the one near the old Women’s Hospital). Try to avoid meetups at someone’s home or a random gas station. Bringing a friend along is always a plus.
And finally, if something seems too good to be true, it probably is, don’t hand over any money until you’ve seen the item in person. Do not pay for something with gift cards!

Why is everything so goddamn expensive. Why are studio apartments $1300 for a studio apartment?? I am looking for somewhere affordable it is only me I do not have any pets or children . Are there any recommendations? I honestly would prefer utilities included. I am just not a fan of paying $1300 for a studio .

Nothing valuable to add to the sub lol. Just gotta say this as I sit here setting an alarm for my flight tomorrow.
Every single time I book a flight I convince myself I'm being financially responsible by flying out of New Orleans instead of Baton Rouge. "It's $300 cheaper. Just drive."
Fast forward two months to travel day:
Wake up way earlier. Pay for gas. Spend my life savings on parking. Drive an hour+. Pray there’s no traffic. Get there 2-3 hours before departure. Stand in TSA for 45 minutes. Question every life decision.
Then I finally finish the trip and land back at the airport… in New Orleans. Cool. I'm still an hour/hour and a half from home.
The worst part is that once you factor in parking (especially for trips over a week) plus gas and time spent, the savings rarely end up being as much as I thought they were.
Meanwhile flying out of Baton Rouge means I leave my apartment like 30-45 minutes before my flight, park, walk inside, and somehow still have time to spare. It’s a smaller airport, less “amenities” and usually more expensive but just sooo much more convenient.
And New Orleans isn’t even a hub so 8/10 you’re gonna have a layover SOMEWHERE anyways.
Every trip I swear I'll just pay the Baton Rouge tax next time.
Then I start searching flights again and suddenly I'm back to, "Well... it's $200 cheaper out of MSY..."
It's a vicious cycle.

Me and my friends work downtown close to Main Street & North 3rd Street (different buildings). There has been this pungent smell permeating our buildings today!! 😂 Anyone know the cause?

I didn't know what Flair to use. I wanted one to say something for just a good laugh. So if this isn't allowed, I apologize.
I thought it was funny.

Recently got into MtG and more specifically playing commander. Was just curious if there is any place that does meetups. Again, I'm fairly new but have a decent understanding of the game. Just looking for people to play with.

I see BREC has one but talking to a coworker that plays it gets pretty sweaty and is mostly college aged guys. Was hoping to find a more casual league where ages are more in their 30-50's and just looking to get a little active and aren't going to get bent out of shape over mistakes.

From the Secretary of State Facebook post:
“The public is invited to view a public demonstration of the Smartmatic VSR 1 2.1 voting system that is being tested for certification for use on Wednesday, July 29 from 9 a.m until noon at the Louisiana State Archives. The state certified five voting systems and one ballot marking device during a previous certification period last year. A new voting system is expected to be selected by the end of the year.”

It has gotten to the point where I am so fed up with people around Baton Rouge & Louisiana in general not knowing how to drive and I’m at the point where I think that they just hand out licenses to anyone. I drive commercial vehicles professionally. I have a dash camera in my personal vehicle and I recently got into a wreck because someone decided to pull out in front of me. For anyone who was hesitant about getting a dash camera I would recommend it because at this point I’m not going to stop. I can see why Louisiana education is at the lowest of the low because people don’t even know what a stop sign is. And my goal is to start raising people’s insurance rates. Since 98% of people don’t know how to drive the right way.

Our hot water heater’s pilot light won’t stay turned on. We had one company come out and tell us we needed a whole new heater and quoted us almost $4000. Who can y’all recommend that is reasonable?

Any recommendations on where I can find real locally grown fruit? Fresh Pickens doesn’t have much.

Hi, we’re looking to remodel our main bathroom with a walk in shower. We were quoted upwards of 16k just to take out the bathtub and put in a plain white acrylic tiled walk-in shower set by re-bath who is partnered with Lowe’s.
I thought this sounded overly expensive since this was the most basic option. Does this price point sound reasonable and/or are there better contractors out there who won’t price gouge.
Thank you!

my population of caterpillars exploded to from 10 to 48 since friday with more on the way. I don’t think my passion vine will sustain them. does anyone have a passion vine and need some caterpillars?

In my Masters program, looking for something quite flexible and simple. DoorDash is my first option, but want to cover my bases.
Where should I look?

I really enjoy playing soccer, I have gotten wind that this place will be closing soon. Seeing as it is the only place to play soccer in baton rouge pretty much, can anyone confirm if this is true? If it is, is there anywhere else people play soccer besides the Mens leagues of BRSC.

So I have a lot on airline highway and was wondering if I wanted to let a few food trucks sell there for an event, who all would I need to contact? I’d have around 8-12 trucks/canopies selling food and a few vendors not selling food.

I biked the Ward Creek Greenway this morning. It's an excellent path, clean for the most part, and well established and protected. There are plans to extend it, which I would greatly enjoy. The only suggestion I have is to add a crosswalk at the South Mall terminus for anyone who wants to bike or walk end-to-end, so they can park and cross the street safely without having to dash across like I did. 10/10 would bike again.

Anyone else see the naked dude walking by the hospital? Unfortunately, my 6 year old did too 🫠
Y’all know if he’s okay? I’ve seen all kinds at that intersection but wasn’t expecting to look over and make eye contact with a ball sack.

My wife is a big crafty and art person. We go to craft fairs for the area, but I was wanting to know if there's anything in the Baton Rouge area. My wife has done pottery, glass sculpture, canvas painting, etc.
I know there are like Painting & Drinking places, but I was looking for other things that my wife may enjoy as an artist.
