Serio 💭 The festering hatred even in unexpected places
I cannot make this up. For context, I work in a very white, very wealthy part of an already wealthy U.S. state. I was born here to Argentine parents but I’m writing this in English because I communicate better in this language lrcpmqlrmp.
Today I went to Whole Foods for lunch and noticed a deli employee wearing an Argentina shirt. I was like hmm, that’s cool, I should go say hi. There was an older, distinguished-looking Indian man talking to him, and I heard “Messi” so I assumed he was a Bangladeshi Argentine. After I ate, I walked over and asked the employee if he was Argentine.
He said no, he just liked the shirt. I asked if he liked the team. “No,” he said. “I don’t like how they play.“ Oh lol, fair enough.
As I was turning to walk away, I just said, “There’s a lot of misinformation out there. Make sure you’re doing your own research about Argentina and its people.” Never in my wildest did I think that old man was a walking Twitter troll but oh boy.
He immediately jumped in and siad I must be Argentine, and started talking about how racist Argentines are and how they can’t get over the war and blahblahblah. At one point he mentioned he was an England supporter, which made the whole thing make more sense but I didn’t realize the aggression this dude was carrying.
I was just going to let it go until he brought up the “Argentine female politician” who supposedly made racist comments about Mbappé on Twitter. I asked, “Do you mean the Paraguayan lawmaker?” I was like, why are you confusing these two completely separate countries?
He was excited to prove me wrong and pulled out his phone. Then he looked at it, realized I was right, and immediately switched to, “Well, I know Argentines are racist because I lived through it.”
By this point I was highly annoyed so I asked if he was maybe confusing Argentina with England (lol) including its colonial history and the regular far-right incidents that still happen there today.
That set him the *fuck* off. He had turned almost purple and was sneering at me and getting closer and closer and running his mouth a hundred miles an hour. He said those incidents were one off and not indicative of the country as a whole and why was I (!!!) bringing politics into it. Real rich of him.
Anyway, I’m a woman, and wasn’t about to stand there arguing with a clearly unhinged man in a Whole Foods especially since people were starting to watch. As I was leaving, I cut him off from his raging diatribe, told him to stop being part of the problem and to learn how to contribute to the betterment of the world lol, and told the kid in the Argentina shirt not to take one person’s word for it and to do his own research.
I looked over my shoulder the whole way back to my car.
Anyway, I’m still kind of shaken. The shit is real and it’s out there getting out of hand and it’s festering in places you’d never expect.

Discusion 🧐 My Heart Goes Out to Argentina
I am a person of color living in America. I am an immigrant as well. I’ve always loved watching the World Cup because it felt like a connection to where I came from. Argentina is very popular in India since Diego Maradona. But Messi is who really made me fall in love with your football team and by extension your country. I can’t believe I got to watch him play in so many World Cups.
I have some criticisms of how the team played in the final but that’s just football. I have been shocked at the amount of vitriol towards your country this past few days. I do not think there is a country on Earth that does not have a problem with race. Maybe Argentina has more problems with others, but we as Americans certainly do not have a right to judge others on this issue. Our history is full of genocide, slavery, and segregation. In America we always treat these issues with a somber tone and celebrate human rights. But we conveniently ignore these issues when they stand in the way of our mega corporations from making more money.
Argentina is not funding the Israeli government. It is America that is responsible for the genocide in Palestine. You should not be judged as a people for the bullshit your politicians say, just as we Americans are not all (but more than we’d like to admit) like Donald Trump.
Finally, as a fan of the team I would like to express that I hope Scaloni and Messi stay on to guide Argentina through the next couple of years. They both have been a class act and that kind of level headedness should continue to be emulated. I hope this translates okay. Love from USA ❤️

Jaj.

Deportes ⚽ I love Argentina 🇦🇷
Hi!
I am a 19 year old dude from Sweden so i’m not even Argentinian but i love Argentina so much and although you guys already know this i just want you to know that not everyone hates Argentina. I fell in love with Argentina through football as i am a Messi fan and my dad was a Maradona fan and he passed it on to me when i was born i always said my love for Argentina was not a choice but instead it was inherited and i could not be happier about inheriting it as i inherited a love for such a wonderful country and people.
But since the World Cup in 2022 (when i was 15) i started to read alot about Argentine culture and history and i am now firmly in love with the country beyond just football and hopefully will visit soon.
The loss has been very painful and i have not taken it well at all most of my friends have fallen for the Argentina hate campaign and when they lost i genuinely feel very isolated right now. I know it’s just football but this is a very painful moment in my life right now.
I want to thank you Argentinians for being who you are and for bringing me and my dad immense joy through your culture, players, wins and most importantly your beautiful country and people.
Vamos Argentina forever and always 🇦🇷❤️

Discusion 🧐 The defamation of Argentina during the WC has been done before… and it was just recently.
We all saw what happened during the world cup, from the first game of the tournament, Argentina was under scrutiny and defamation. I made a post yesterday how this impacted me so deeply. I’m not argentinian but i wonder how an argentine would feel amidst all this propaganda and level of fake news. But then i remember just during AFCON 2025 that was held in Morocco.
It pretty much same thing has happened in the same manner. Argentina and Morocco were fhe rising teams in the last 5 years. Although Argentina was on another level. They were too hated for their success. But the opportunists outlets we’re waiting for an exact moment to claim “Rigged” and the catchy our of context words that would spread the hate.
Morocco in afcon were the organizers, and Afcon wasn’t a competition the whole words watch. It had a medium Platform. But 2025 was the biggest in coverage. Morocco was accused of buying the refs and fixing games. But it was untrue but it didn’t matter. Argentina was accused of fixing copa America 2025 snd the last Two WC. No proof just human errors that can benefit both teams or something out of context.
I saw some fellow Argentinians saying “ This WC we knew whom our brothers are and who our enemies are” because i noticed neighbored countries (not everyone) but a handful were confirming the hate to foreigners ourside Latin America. Morocco suffered the same. They were accused of being bad people and israel of Africa and our neighbor countries (not all) were playing confirmation bias tool for foreigners outside Africa.
Media outlets used every little thing and blew it out of proportion to stire controversy. Both teams lost the final. The media directed the camera to the things that would make those teams ever more hated, instead of showing the truth. Paid X accounts and TikTok accounts using even AI to spread misinformation.
This made huge pressure of players for both teams.
The world isn’t a kind place if you were portrayed a villain. Most people wouldn’t waste time to search for the truth. Instead they will think 40 Million people are racist because the media outlets says it.
When i said i feel you, this is what i was talking about. I know some might thing that just my love of Argentina national team is just superficial but no. I visited argentina and in love the passoon the country and the culture. If it started with football, it ended up with a wide love for a whole nation

Discusion 🧐 Bangladesh’s love for Argentina and why it’s different .
Hola amigos , as you may wonder why Bangladesh a tiny country in South Asia loves your country who is so far away. Let me give you a background on this :
Bangladeshis love for Argentina didn’t start with Messi . It all started In 1986, when at the height of tensions for Las Malvinas or Falkland Islands Maradona’s Argentina defeated England in World Cup quarterfinal in the most poetic way possible . And for millions of Bangladeshis who watched that World Cup in-front of TV for the first time as a nation who lost its crowned glory in the most unfair way possible at the hand of the British this surely felt like a mythical justice . From that moment supporting Argentina became, for many Bangladeshis, an inheritance passed across generations as a ritual where sport intertwined with history, anti colonial consciousness, and emotion.
Needless to say, Bangladeshis love for Argentina was never just about football it is political and metaphysical in nature. I wish prosperity and happiness to the nation of maradona and Messi .
Que viva la amistad eterna entre Argentina y Bangladesh! ¡Que viva la libertad, la dignidad y los pueblos que nunca olvidan su historia! 🇦🇷 🇧🇩
