I've decided to do a rehaul of the rules. I want things to be clear and concise. Please let me know if there's anything I'm missing or if there's anything I should change.

Device Settings Question OnePlus 15 (16GB/512GB) weird refresh rate / FPS behavior in games?

Upvotes

Has anyone else noticed something like this on the OnePlus 15?

When I'm playing games, they often look a bit "laggy" or less smooth than they should, even though the FPS counter (if the game has one) doesn't necessarily indicate a problem.

The weird part is that if I do something that causes a system overlay to appear, like pressing the volume buttons so the volume slider is visible, the game instantly becomes noticeably smoother while the overlay is on screen. The moment the volume slider disappears, it goes right back to feeling less smooth again.

It's almost as if the phone temporarily switches to a higher refresh rate or changes how frames are being presented whenever a UI overlay is active.

I've noticed this in multiple games, so it doesn't seem to be game-specific.

Has anyone experienced this or know if it's a refresh rate issue, frame pacing issue, LTPO behavior, or some kind of power-saving optimization? Is there a setting or fix for it?

Thanks!

Other Private Space App Updates

I don't use private space very often, maybe once a month. Currently I am not getting notified of app updates due while I'm not logged in. This leads me to suspect that nothing is being run in the background and that I can see a situation occurring where I unlock private space and over the next several minutes get inundated with apps that need updating. I don't want that to happen.

Is there a way for the various update methods such as Obtanium, F-Droid and Aurora to continue to operate even though private space is locked?

Is it possible for Android to split audio output between the phone speaker and a USB-C audio device?

Hi everyone,

I'm working on a hardware concept and I'm trying to find out if Android already supports something like this.

The idea is a small USB-C bass module that plugs into a smartphone. Instead of acting like a normal speaker, it would only reproduce the low frequencies (bass), while the phone's built-in speaker would continue playing the mid and high frequencies.

So the desired signal chain would look something like this:

Phone speaker → mids + highs

USB-C bass module → bass only

This would effectively turn the phone into a small 2-way speaker system.

My questions are:

Is this kind of dual audio routing possible in Android?

Does Android have any hidden APIs, developer options, or undocumented features that allow different frequency ranges or audio streams to be sent to different output devices?

Or is this something that would only be possible with root, a custom ROM, or major framework modifications?

Would implementing this require writing a custom audio HAL or using Android's AudioFlinger in a custom build?

I'm mainly wondering whether Android itself is technically capable of this, even if there isn't a setting for it.

Thanks!

Has my phone begun to brick?

Upvotes

I have an old phone (pixel 3) which I don't want to replace until necessary. Wondering if I have just reached that point, and looking for input or (ideally) a way to squeeze another year of use out of it.

So all my google apps and services just stopped working. Google maps won't load anything or show any search results, gmail won't load new emails, calender suddenly says I need to verify my identity with something called a "passkey" (which just leads me in an infinite loop, "something went wrong") so it no longer syncs, and even the pixel buds app just insta-crashes and redirects me to settings (so for example I can't turn noise cancel on/off anymore).

Until recently my phone memory was really full, which I assumed was the problem, but I've cleared 10+ gb and also cleared the caches in all the apps, and restarted the phone etc. No luck.

Does anyone know (a) what might be going wrong or (b) how it might be fixed?

Other Help with Samsung A71 getting no service

There is no service on my sim card (that still works fine on other phones), and the flight mode is hilighted even while turned off.
Tried the basic tricks of turning it off and on again, pulling out the sim card, reseting the mobile network setting but none of them work.
Is this a software issue or are the both sim card slots somehow damaged?

Looking For Suggestions Is there an uninstaller that lets me view the details/info/screenshots of each app before uninstalling it? And works with apps in Samsung's "Deep Sleep"? Free or paid

My phone:

  • S24+
  • Latest Android (16), fully up to date as of July 22nd, 2026

I have a lot of apps that I don't use on my phone and I'm tired of them being on there, so I'm wanting to uninstall them. I tried using the Play Store's Manage Apps system, however it doesn't show apps that were put into "deep sleep".

So I'm looking for an app that can do the following:

  • Either show a list of each app with a link to the play store with a select box that doesn't make it forget which apps I have selected so I can determine what the app is and if I'll ever use it again. OR, and I think I'd prefer this but I doubt it exists - show me a preview of each app one by one and let me choose which to uninstall and which to keep, one app at a time - sort of like Tinder, but for uninstalling apps.
  • Show apps in "Deep sleep".
  • Organize the list by when an app was last used.
  • Let me, and this is key so it bares repeating - see the details of the app from the play store before uninstalling.

Thanks in advance. I've done a decent amount of looking around, however there are so many out there and none that I've found seem to do what I need. ADB AppControl comes closest but I use Linux and I don't really feel up to messing with getting it working in WINE considering it uses ADB, if there's already an Android or Linux friendly method out there.

Just found out SDCARD support isn't a standard anymore, wtf?!

Hello,

I'm usually with second-hand phones staying several years behind, and now I need a new phone ... but I'm not looking at anything newer, still early 2020 levels, very diasappointed that so many phones don't support SDCARD expansion anymore.

How does this affect moddability, app management, debloating, etc
How did the community adapt?

Thanks

Device Settings Question How do I disable Emergency Alerts on Android 6.0?

Last night my whole house was woken up by the government pushing an Emergency Amber Alert to my phone, for a child that went missing on the complete opposite side of the province. Like it would be physically impossible for the kid to even have made it to my island at that point.

Much as I would like to disable the government (or at least have them limit middle-of-the-night amber alerts to areas that they're actually relevant) it seems unlikely that will happen, at least not in Canada.

I've read you can disable emergency alerts in new versions of Android OS, and in older versions you can block the Emergency Alerts app from accessing SMS messages as a workaround.

I'm on Android 6.0 and I can't seem to find any Emergency Alerts app in my list of apps (even with "system" apps enabled). Also the page that lists which apps have SMS Permission only shows my two SMS apps, doesn't list Emergency Alerts.

There also doesn't seem to be any "Safety and Emergency" section anywhere in my settings.

How do I disable these in Android 6.0?

Device Settings Question Is there a way to change screen rotation sensitivity?

My OnePlus 15 decides to rotate the screen a ton when sitting on a flat surface and decides to flip the screen in various directions at the slightest jolt. If there's a way to tone it down, It would be very appreciated.

Device Settings Question Is there a way to always keep all installed apps up-to-date?

I have a Samsung S26 Ultra but also had this issue on my S24 Plus before, same as my gf on her S24 Plus. I check for updates in the Play Store, nothing. Whenever I open any app I haven't used in a while it always stops me from using it, saying there is a new version and I need to update it first.

I would like to just keep all apps updated at all times, I wouldn't even mind confirming each of the updates but always having to open all apps to have them updated is stupid. Not sure if it's an Android issue or a Samsung issue but has anyone any idea how to solve this or is this just how it is?

Edit: already solved, thanks!

Best smartphone under ₹40K in India for 4-year use? Was considering OnePlus 13R, but now confused.

Hi everyone,

I'm planning to buy a new phone with a budget of around ₹40,000 and was initially set on the OnePlus 13R. However, I've been seeing a lot of discussions about OnePlus recently, things like slower software updates, green line issues, and even rumors that OnePlus might scale down or exit certain markets. I'm not sure how much of that is true, but it has made me reconsider.

So now I'm looking for a reliable alternative that I can comfortably use for the next 4 years.

My usage is pretty straightforward:

  • Social media
  • ChatGPT and other AI apps
  • OTT streaming (Netflix, Prime Video, etc.)
  • Good camera for photos and videos
  • Casual gaming once in a while (COD Mobile, World of Warships, etc.); definitely not a heavy gamer

My priorities are:

  • Reliable software support for 4+ years
  • Good battery life
  • Smooth day-to-day performance
  • Good cameras
  • Decent display and multimedia experience

I'm okay with Android only.

What would you recommend under ₹40K in India? Also, if you think the OnePlus 13R is still the best choice, I'd love to hear why despite the concerns.

Thanks in advance!

Looking For Suggestions How can I send notifications from a website to an app when the app is closed?

I have an Android app, which is just a WebView of a website. That website sends notifications to users. Those notifications should be sent to the Android app as a badge on the app's home screen launcher icon when the app is closed. The users need to have an account to receive those notifications because they are user-specific.

Does anybody have an idea how I can do that? AI suggests Firebase Cloud Messaging. Thank you in advance.

Device Settings Question Moto G05 stuck on 54 Mbps Legacy Wi-Fi connection with Huawei HG8145X6-10 router

Hi, I'm having a weird Wi-Fi issue with my Moto G05 and I'm looking for a solution.

My ISP provided me with a Huawei OptiXstar HG8145X6-10 router (Wi-Fi 6). The router broadcasts a single SSID for both 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz.

My Moto G05 connects to my home Wi-Fi at only 54 Mbps and shows "Legacy" mode, giving me around 11 Mbps on speed tests.

The strange part:

- My mother's Moto G04 connects to the same Wi-Fi network at 433 Mbps and gets the full 100 Mbps internet speed.

- My Moto G05 connects normally as Wi-Fi 5 on other networks.

- I already tried resetting network settings multiple times.

- I tested right next to the router, so signal strength is not the issue.

It seems like a compatibility problem between the Moto G05 and this Huawei router.

Does anyone know what could cause this or how to force the phone to use Wi-Fi 5 (802.11ac) instead of Legacy mode?

Thanks!

Unlocking bootloader in Redmi Note 13 pro 5g

As of today i decided that i was done using hyperos but my original plan was completely shattered after i learned that Xiaomi phones with hyperos have a different method to unlock the bootloader, so i tried to do the official way which requires logging in to MI Unlock with an account, so i tried to log in without sucess because it straight up tells me that the system is being upgraded and won't let me log in, of course i got pissed off and tried more agressive methods like Hypersploit and guess what?? I can't use it because my phone that currently has a version of hyperos which is android 15 that IS PATCHED, so i can't use hypersploit to unlock the Mi unlock crap and so i can't unlock the bootloader and consequently can't change OS. Does anyone know a solution to this or have any advice that could work?? Anything would be useful.

Google Drive audio goes silent when app is in background (Pixel 9, Android 17)

Hi everyone,

I'm experiencing a strange issue recently when playing audio files from Google Drive on my Google Pixel 9 that I recently updated to Android 17.

Here's what happens:

  • I start playing an MP3 from the Google Drive app.
  • When I lock the screen or simply leave the app running in the background, the audio plays for a few seconds and then becomes completely silent.
  • The playback itself does not stop: the progress bar continues normally.
  • As soon as I unlock the phone and return to the app, the audio immediately resumes from the current playback position.

Here's what I've already tried:

  • Google Drive is up to date.
  • Battery optimization for Google Drive is set to Unrestricted.
  • The issue occurs with both Bluetooth headphones and the phone's built-in speaker.

Has anyone else experienced this lately? Could it be related to this recent Android 17 update?
Is there any known fix or workaround?

Thanks!
