Mom is half Mexican half puerto rican. Never met biological father but was always told he was Jewish - I didn’t really grasp whether this was ethnically or religiously. I’ve always felt a little strange when asked what my ethnicity was, because I was never really sure what to say!

Surprised to see such a small percent Mexican, and very surprised by the large percentage of Spanish. I didn’t know a large percentage of Puerto Ricans were Spanish.

Fun fact: I raced in the Ironman 70.3 world championships last year in Marbella, Spain. Per my results, my ancestors came from southern Spain, right where I raced! I thought that was really cool!

As far as I know, my paternal ancestors were mainly Armenian (basically Arabs/Turks but Christian + speak Russian) and my maternal ancestors were Mongolian (Asiatic nomads from a place where it snows 10 months of the year). It's interesting to see how diverse my results are, because in my day-to-day life I'm more or less just seen as a generic brown guy 😅

I've had these results for a while now but my West Asian part changed a bit recently (added Shirak Province where there used to be just Yerevan).

Both sides of my family are from Jalisco(Tepatitlan)

Mexican and Cuban American here, I find this surprising I really thought I would be more Native American than Spanish, I was thinking something like maybe 60% Native American but surprised to see it’s the other way around. Interesting and the results are high enough that I guess my grandparents had to have been full Europeans even though they are Mexican and Cuban. Maybe it’s the Cuban side that brings out the Galician ancestry. Does anyone have similar results from either Mexican or Cuban background. I see it’s really a high result specifically for the Galician side.

These are my moms results and definitely NOT wa hat I was expecting 😭 getting Nepal as a region is so interesting and cool. Says last 200 years. The Chinese is kind of expected in us eastern Bengalis/bangladeshis. The very high amount the central is uncalled for. Before I had 0.2% Central Asian, after phasing with her I got 0.4%. And the trace of welsh? I’m guessing noise because it goes away at the 90% confidence but says until 80%. Lmk if that means anything? Her haplogroup is M3. And apparently she shares 30% of dna with my 1st cousin? That’s seems a lot. lol.

I know that my grandparent 3 generations back was Irish, but I expected the percentage to be higher because my family is catholic and married into other Catholic Irish families in the north of England (Yorkshire) who were migrants from Ireland. What has suprised me more though, is the Canary islander - is this just noise, an error, or did I genuinely have an ancestor from there? I did my initial test back in 2020 and at that time it came back with around 10% broadly northern European without any southern European, but recently in the last year or two has shown Canary islander. Another thing that I thought is that possibly some canary islander/portugese dna in the Irish population. Thoughts?

How accurate is 23 & Me's regions? When I suggested to my Grandma that we might be Dutch, she said her Grandparents were very big people. Like, really tall, big-boned, and naturally strong.

Tbh, Idk how to tell if it's real or not. She does not know where most of her family is from, but from my description does Western Germany or Dutch make more sense?

Idk if this helps, but if anyone knows a lot about immigration patterns, even though I have no Belgian regions, I have a cousin with the same genetic category, "Belgian, Rhinelander, and Southern Dutch," who on the relatives map is located in Belgium!

I got my results from 23andme DNA test this morning and the results came back: 50% Filipino, 37% European, 7%Indigenous Native American (my dad is Puerto Rican) and 6%African.

I am completely stunned and honored that I have 6 % coming from Africa. I don’t know much about my grandparents or great grandparents or before that other than that it seems my dad has pretty deep roots in Puerto Rico.

I did some googling and 6% ancestry means having a 2x great grandparents who was fully African.

I wonder, for those of you who had similar numbers on your dna test, what does it mean to you? What is the wording I could use to describe this part of me that I don’t know much about?

I keep thinking of what my ancestors may have looked like and what they were like.

I’ve done some research on Puerto Rico being considered tri racial meaning that majority of Puerto Ricans have about 20 percent African DNA, 13-17 percent Taino indigenous, and the rest coming from European or Spanish.

What are your thoughts on the idea of Puerto Rico being considered tri racial?

My mom is Filipino and she seems more connected
to her side of the family than my dad is to his.

I wish I knew more about what my ancestors were like.

23&me + Ancestry + My Heritage New WGS and Older Microarray

The 0%s on ancestry are between 0.3-0.8% via backend main list is missing traces of 0.27% Iceland (that only shows on the back end and various others)

FTDNA Big Y 700 (batch pending)

I have 90K+ matches on ancestry 10K + on my heritage and 5K + on 23&me

If anyone wants to know the difference in matches between the older My Heritage microarray test and the new low-pass WGS is about 1000 more matches but as you can see in the last my heritage WGS picture the regions is more “bare” with the newer low pass WGS vs the older microarray.. which will prob expand over time aswell !

One set of 5th and up paternal great grandparents were from Scotland and were Scottish + English, Irish + German Mix etc and 4th and down it started to mix with you can probably take a wild guess.

So I have cousins everywhere all around the world, pick a place and we’re probably there ! 😂

If you have a family history of Aliʻi/Chief lineage in Hawaii or NZ I’m prob related to you !

Have any other Mexicans experienced this? I have a closer genetic group to Spain than I do to Mexico and it seems off. Also the ancestry timeline seems wrong. Btw I was born in Michoacán
